In 2022, I got 0 meetings booked for months. In 2024, I get 1 meeting booked per day. Here's what happened in between: — Started networking in the DMs with leads; — Created bad offers, tried again (still bad); — Never stopped trying (5 msgs per day); I found my style, then doubled down. That was a 24-month process. But this process created a real transformation. - Before networking, I was just another account. - With networking, I now have leads turn to clients/friends. Is it just me or is networking turning Into a Constant Sales Pitch? I remember when I first started networking on LinkedIn it felt like every connection request was followed by a sales pitch. I’d accept and almost instantly I’d get a message about something I didn’t even need. It was like walking into a room where everyone had something to sell but no one was actually talking. I realized networking isn’t about how many people you know it’s about how well you know them. And that takes time. I stopped worrying about making a pitch or selling myself instead I started focusing on real conversations asking genuine questions and actually listening. And when I did everything changed. The awkwardness went away. Conversations started to flow more naturally. People weren’t just names in my inbox they became real connections. It’s easy to think networking has to be all business especially on LinkedIn where it feels like everyone’s selling something. But next time you hit connect dont think about a sales pitch just start a real conversation. You’ll be surprised at how much more comfortable and meaningful it feels. Want to win more clients? Stop pitching. That’s right. Stop chasing after prospects. Stop trying to convince them that you're the best choice. Instead, focus on sparking a dialogue that’s all about them and what they want. What they’re trying to accomplish. And why that’s important to them. How do you do that? By asking good questions, listening attentively, and then asking follow-up and probing questions. The goal? To see if you have a mutually beneficial fit. Anything less than that is not going to work. Conversions happen by having honest, open conversations — not by pitching or presenting. So stop pitching.
