Should you attend a career fair if you’re looking for a SWE/DS internship? In my humble opinion, no. You’re spending hours waiting in line, hoping that one company would finally take notice of you. Instead, you should be using this time to leetcode or apply to 50+ job postings. I know people who’ve gotten an internship from a career fair. But I also know people who simply cold applied and got the job. If you have all the fundamentals down, by all means go wait in line for 5 hours. But most of us don’t even know how to solve a Leetcode medium in 30 minutes! So start with the largest levers, tailor your resume and solve Neetcode 150, before considering going to a career fair.

Attention on Deck: October 16 – Texas Service Center We are excited to share that SCOPS will be hosting four upcoming hiring fairs at our brick-and-mortar locations. These hiring fairs are an opportunity for individuals to learn more about the SCOPS and USCIS mission, meet with hiring managers, and discover how joining USCIS can be the start of a meaningful career. These hiring fairs are geared towards and intended for members of the public and individuals who do not currently work for USCIS. SCOPS will be targeting entry-level positions at these fairs, specifically Immigration Services Officers (Level 1) and Immigration Services Assistants (OA). We are sharing this information with our SCOPS workforce so that you may share it with those who may be interested in working with us. We will host a career fair in the coming weeks. We have attached the career fair flyer with additional details and information on positions and registration. Also attached is a helpful “What to Expect at a USCIS Hiring Fair” fact sheet. October 16 – Texas Service Center 🗓 That is all...

It’s March! 🚨 This means on-campus career fairs for Summer 2024 internships/jobs are up again ⏰ I got my first internship through a career fair held in MARCH, so I put together everything you’ll need to navigate & be successful at your next career fair: I like to break it down into 3 stages: before, during, and after! 1️⃣ Before: - Check out exactly what companies will be present and read up on the products/services of your top 10. - Any last minute tweaking of your resume for things like updating your GPA, previous experience, projects, etc - Prepare your elevator pitch - Put the date/time/location in your calendar and account for the commute or check-in time - if you know who will be present from the company, check out their LinkedIn profile to see any similar interests or background (many times recruiters can be alumni as well) - Check their company’s career website and apply to the roles in advance of the career fair (sometimes they can even check your application on the spot 👀) - make a feel good confidence playlist for the day of/commute (stole this from the amazing Daniel Horgan) 2️⃣ Day of & during: - Dress professionally in something you’re both confident and comfortable in - Practice your elevator pitch first thing in the morning - Get the ‘networking nerves’ out by going to a company that isn't exactly your target for practice - Don’t directly hand off your resume and start asking about jobs, show actual interest in their work! - Bring up the position you applied for - Leave your resume with them and ask if you can stay connected (they usually offer their LinkedIn at the very least) 3️⃣ After: - Follow up the day after - Keep in touch by interacting with their posts or company news - Sign up for job alerts for the companies you had the most interest in to stay up to date - Prepare for interviews or attend another fair! Now, rinse & repeat until you master em! Remember, practice beats talent :) Any other suggestions? Hope this helps somebody out there for their next fair!

Any free continuing education offer with Jennifer Gonzalez, let me be the one to tell you if you don't know already -- Clear your schedules! Don't miss it :) When I was getting my credential, it was Jennifer who first helped me understand the critical transition between learning to read and reading to learn. As I began teaching, I discovered there is a parallel discernment we as #EduCreators (love that word, genius Christel Guillen!!) make daily between thinking to write and writing to think: there are editing ("thinking to write") moments, and there are creative moments ("writing to think"). In all classrooms, there is room to support both at differentiated levels for all students--we just have to keep equipping ourselves and pushing education further, higher, and wider. I hope this is a packed house -- excited for this!!!

Kentucky Career Center (KCC) would like to personally invite you to their online “Let’s Talk Tuesdays” virtual job fairs. Here’s how it works: On the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month, from 1:00pm – 3:30pm, they host online job fairs so you can connect with employers from home, on your cell, at your local library or wherever is most convenient for you! This is a great way to talk with several employers at once and explore local jobs that are now open. Their next event is May 7th The events are for “All industries/All jobs” type of opportunities. One of the requirements to complete your registration is to upload your resume as a .PDF file not a .DOC file. Here’s a tip on how you change it. If the file was previously saved, select File > Save a Copy. If the file is unsaved, select File > Save As. 1. Select Browse to choose the location on your computer where you want to save the file. 2. In the drop-down list, select PDF. 3. Select Save. Use the .PDF resume when you are registering for the virtual job fair. Here’s a “how to register” video. KCC does not have Host Questions or Categories in their application. https://lnkd.in/ePkSTc8U Use this link to register for the online job fair: https://lnkd.in/g3bPN5vB
