Ever wondered how you can generate, prioritise and test braver, bolder ideas in your company? 💡 Or how you can solve seemingly complex problems with a relatively simple solution? 🧐 Same here! That's why we've been applying some of the advice and ideas in Rory Sutherland's book 'Alchemy', empowering teams to think laterally when it comes to problem solving in order to generate many new, creative ideas, both logical and psycho-logical. 🧠 When trying to help customers with their needs and goals, we can sometimes get caught up in solving what we think is the problem, when actually it's just the perception of the problem that needs to change. Understanding the real 'why' behind the issue you're trying to solve will open up a world of alternative ways to improve customer experience. For example, Uber, rather than reducing the 'amount of time customers spend waiting' for a taxi, they have improved the 'quality of time spent waiting', by allowing you to finish your pint at the bar, rather than standing by the side of the road in the rain, whilst you watch your taxi arrive in the app. 🚕 🗺 Interested in reading more examples and seeing how we're applying those at Moonpig? I am a hobby chef, and recently I was on the lookout for an app to manage my own recipes. I discovered “BigOven,” and it had one standout feature: it allowed me to scan and digitize my handwritten recipes 🤩. I loved this, as it would take away the hassle of migrating from my handwritten booklet to a digital app. Excited, I tested it by sending a photo of a cherished recipe 📸. Surprisingly, I was informed it would take a few days to digitize 🤔 —much longer than expected for OCR technology. It should only take mere seconds, right? To my surprise, I soon realized the digitization was being done manually 💡 . My picture was sent to “someone,” and that “someone” manually typed over my recipe and added it to my digital catalog. 👨💻 This was a great example of a Concierge or Wizard of Oz Experiment 🧙♂️: “fake” the feature first before committing. By manually processing recipes first, they could validate user demand and gather feedback, ensuring a solid foundation for future investment. BigOven is demonstrating a smart way to innovate 🧪: validate assumptions and user needs before committing to extensive development.

We've been doing some work with health-focused DTC food and Bev brands, and we got our hands on 50k+ product reviews from different companies in the space. Cotera has an AI model that can tag different topics and sentiment within a product review, so if someone speaks positively about the customer service experience but negatively about the taste of the product, we can measure the true sentiment accurately. Anyway, I thought I'd use the AI model on the large dataset and share the results with you all! Pretty interesting, right? The thing that surprised me most was the fact that a *fifth* of the issues were related to product usability - this was related to things like the packaging being hard to open, powders not dissolving well, etc. I think in a world where millions of niche products are being sold across the web, it's super easy to overlook making your product easy to understand. It might be fun to do a deeper dive on some of these - what questions come to mind for you when looking at this dataset?

The very predictable AI backlash and failures are beginning to come to light. Like every tech revolution, people focus on the business value and forget that there are people at the other end of the solution that are needed to make it successful. This story about the failure at McDonalds, after a two year effort, is a symptom of a much larger issue when organizations approaching AI from the point of view of how it fits into their bottom line vs. a Human-Centered approach that adds value to its customers. https://lnkd.in/gi9Ze9b8 #ai #userexperience #innovation #ux #automation
