Health is THE argument for climate action. Top recommendations: Make human health and well-being the top measure of climate success to catalyse progress and ensure people-centred adaptation and resilience; End fossil fuel subsidies and reliance by realigning economic and financial systems to protect both people's health and the environment, through investment in clean, sustainable alternatives that reduce pollution-related diseases and cut carbon emissions; Mobilize financing for climate-health initiatives, particularly to strengthen responsive health systems and support the health workforce, creating resilient, climate-proof health systems to protect health and save lives; Invest in proven solutions; just 5 interventions – from heat-health warning systems, to clean household energy, to efficient pricing of fossil fuels – would save almost 2 million lives a year, and bring US$ 4 in benefits for each dollar invested; Build greater focus on the role of cities in health outcomes, through more sustainable urban design, clean energy, resilient housing, and improved sanitation; Increase protections for and restoration of nature and biodiversity, recognizing the synergistic health benefits of clean air, water and food security. https://lnkd.in/dDDDrwhu

HI, just thinking, that by only focusing on human health, the concepts of OneHealth and Planetary Health are negated by not taking into consideration animal/plant health and thie importance of biodiversity. It also excludes the economic arguments, with the climate crisis responsible for trillions of dollars of fallout, etc.

All of this will be very difficult because education across the board is lacking or non existent in many countries. The USA has been under educating its citizens for decades, since Reagan. Until you educate the ENTIRE populace, you will not be successful in electing people who change things. A large part of this is religion based. Religions do not want educated people because religion decreases as education increases…fact. If you are ignorant you are easy to control. Educate the world and you save it. The way the USA is going, we will see a repeat of the French Revolution. Probably not in my lifetime but eventually. Education is the most important thing on this planet.

Impact of climate change on health is indeed one of the most compelling argument for urgent action. But we should not of course ignore the many other aspects. We remember that the the chair of COP 15 in Paris said that the Paris agreement was also a health agreement. I am happy that the special cooperation between WMO and WHO continues to be an example in the multilateral system.

Great advice. the idea that the health of the human civilization and the natural systems that support it are interconnected, and that human well-being depends on the health of the earth. Additionally, human body is made of cells and these cells sustain due to the environmental effects. So the conclusion hereby comes that the human body and functioning totally depends upon climate conditions and the outcomes. Thoughtful post!!

Very happy to see several of our suggestions taken into the final report!! Children are recognized to be especially vulnerable to climate crisis related health risks 👏👏 Investment in the #first1000days will yield significant returns-and is an investment in the future! Putting health and climate on the same battleground is definitely needed. There is still a huge paradox in the health industry. They are the ones who cure diseases, but they are also one of the most pollutant industries. Spotlighting the link between climate and health could push all the players to accelerate the change. Thanks for sharing.
