Show them? Before that you want to engage them. Pipe in to HOW they process information. Do they need to experience something? Do they need testimony from other users? Do they need to hear your message again and again (and again?) What’s the best way to convince them? Let a man talk about himself and he could speak for hours. Such is a human being’s need for acceptance and validation.

I’ve been reflecting on New Materialisms and Systemic Psychotherapy: Does it Matter? (PART 2) by Federico Maria Albertini and colleagues, which one of the authors shared recently. The paper explores how New Materialist ideas might reshape systemic psychotherapy by attending to materiality, context, and relational dynamics in new ways. What struck me most while reading was how closely their discussion of partialities, relational feedback, and the inclusion of non-human and material actors parallels my own thinking around sacred unity and systemic adaptability. Like Bateson’s ecological epistemology, this paper challenges us to move beyond anthropocentric or purely discursive framings of therapy. For me, these parallels highlight how different thinkers and practitioners seem to be converging on relational, adaptive frameworks better suited to the complexity of our world. It’s heartening to see these ideas emerging in different places and contexts. Thank you to the authors for this thought-provoking contribution—I look forward to seeing how these ideas continue to evolve and intersect with others working in this space.

An accurate record is one that can be relied upon as an accurate account of the discussion or event that it documents. Note that a record can be both authentic and inviolate, but still be inaccurate due to faulty recollection. Accuracy can be maximised by creating records at the time of the event or as soon as possible afterwards, while memories are still fresh.
