🎨This artwork made from discarded carton and plastic waste (plastic bags and bottles), is to demonstrate a method of reducing waste and to tell an authentic narrative regarding the disproportionate impacts of climate change on rural women. 🔘 Land degradation increases the work burden of women, requiring them to trek longer distances than they previously did to collect water. (Worldwide, women and girls spend an estimated 200 million hours daily collecting water according to UNICEF. In rural sub-Saharan Africa, just one trip takes an average of 33 minutes). Climate change is an opportunity for us to shift towards sustainability and create solutions for the problems we've caused. The backbone bone of any commodity market is natural, end-user demand. According to the CDP, "3,000 companies, including listed companies with over US$ 31 trillion in market capitalization value, have disclosed information on their production and use of plastics for the first time." With 11M tons of plastic waste entering the ocean every year, there is an indisputable need to change and accelerate how we deal with this global problem. Market-based-mechanisms do not rely on donations or government support - they are a way for private businesses to drive real change. Look forward to kicking of this effort on October 1st with early pioneers in this space - Verra, Africa Carbon & Commodities, and Aither. Join the webinar to lean more! Environmental friendly products are the most lucrative products you can invest in or purchase. Not only due to the fact that you are preserving the environment and humanity at the same time, but also, these goods help us save a lot of money. Let’s take a look at these plantain fiber bags for example, they serve as alternatives for plastic bags which are cancer carrrying products, they serve as alternatives for wood plastic bags which are results of deforestation and causes of global warming. These bags are very affordable, reusable, fashionable and they resist water. They don’t pollute the ocean or the soil. #sustainabledevelopment #environment #circulareconomy #wastemanagement #agrowastemanagement Wangechi Kuria African Development Bank Group Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Prudence MASSENG HEDA Forgwei Wango Wabua UNICEF Cameroon Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH British Council UNESCO Fonds Spécial d'Equipement et d'Intervention Intercommunale ( FEICOM)

Why is plastic only valued when it benefits businesses? When waste collectors see its worth, they gather plastic in staggering amounts. Are we empowering collectors and communities or just feeding a system that thrives on waste? In this Eco-Business podcast, Rene Guarin , our VP Asia Pacific dives into how Plastic Bank's approach is helping communities in the Philippines tackle plastic pollution. He emphasizes the role that businesses can play in creating economic opportunity. #PlasticPollution #PlasticBank #EPR #Philippines 👉 https://lnkd.in/gjV5p-Ka
