[#PRINCE2] “Manage by stages” is the 4th #PRINCE2 principle. ▫️part 1▫️ According to PRINCE2, a project is planned, monitored and controlled, management stage by management stage. A manager is managing on behalf of the project Board. The project Board will wish to review the progress by date: the state of the project plan, the business case, the risks and the next stage plan, in order to continue with the project! The focus on managing by stages ensures that the project is properly initiated before work starts on delivery of the project’s output! Remember, the project board delegates the authority for day to day control of a management stage, within agreed tolerances, to the project manager. A project management has discretion to make adjustments as required as long as the management stage is forecast to remain within tolerance! This approach has 2 advantages; The first advantage: “management by exception” by the project board. The board takes action only when necessary and when the project is out of tolerance! The second advantage is that the project board doesn’t have to be involved in day to day decisions of the project, retaining the level of control it requires - while reducing the administrative overhead of being involved! “Quality is not an act, it is a habit.” — Aristotle Principle: Build quality into processes and deliverables (5 of 12) In project management, quality means building excellence into both processes and deliverables. Quality ensures that outputs align with objectives and contribute to the value chain. Deliverables that meet requirements increase the probability of delivering real business benefits. Quality isn’t just about meeting standards—it’s about creating results that are fit for purpose, satisfy needs, and are free from defects. Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) enhances quality by emphasizing focus, reducing multitasking, and safeguarding essential tasks. CCPM builds quality into project delivery by ensuring that resources are devoted to critical tasks without interruptions, which minimizes errors and enhances consistency. By identifying buffer time for critical activities, CCPM creates a buffer against unexpected issues, allowing teams to address quality concerns proactively rather than reactively. For example, in a software project, CCPM principles might limit tasks-in-progress to ensure each stage is thoroughly completed and tested before moving forward, thereby preventing defects. This structured approach to resource and task management promotes high-quality outputs, strengthening stakeholder trust and delivering sustainable value. #QualityManagement #ProjectManagement #NoDefects #FitForPurpose #BusinessValue #ContinuousImprovement #CCPM #CriticalChain
