What is the right engineering team size for an early-stage company? While team composition varies based on a company's strategic and operational objectives, engineering pod sizes are typically smaller in earlier stage companies. Teams that operate in smaller pods with clear targets report that they cultivate focus, direction, and accountability, generally leading to better outcomes. In our latest survey of engineering leaders, we found that team size grew from 5 engineers to 7 engineers as company revenue climbed to $250M+.
