People who know me know I love analogies. I love marketing and distribution too. The best analogy combining all of this is about a fisherman, and it is about the necessities of achieving the subject matter, sellingf. It goes like this: “The fishermen with a bigger net and a better bait is more likely to catch fish” Maximising sales at scale via exposure, with a clear understanding of drivers influencing your own race against other competitors, which in turn can influence your ability to be chosen and the pricing for your product; until then, customers drive your destiny including at what quantity and price you can sell your product. In other words, if you are a hungry fish (or hungry seagulls for that matter), what school of fish or boat you follow which has the right bait becomes important; thus as a business catering to these, you must get it right. Black Friday is akin to this analogy: all I can say enjoy your catch fishermen and fisherwomen, so are your fishes, whatever bait they buy. Everyone is a winner! I can hear flapping! If not, you’ll likely need to revisit your value prop. The key is that the best bait goes for the masses. If you start tailoring your value prop on the exceptions, what ifs, you are likely to have lost the race and opportunities to sell, unles you are the single best and highest quality.
