Hey, @a11y folks, We're looking for a UX/UI designer with strong accessibility skills to help build an online marketplace for accessible diagrams, charts, maps, and other graphics. Any suggestions for folks who might fit the bill, or good places where we should post the job description? The job is fully remote, but because it's funded by a federal grant, the position is only for US-based folks. Update: Alas, I'm a fool. I should have realized that people would treat this post as a job posting. It's not. I'm asking my network to advise me on how best to find suitable applicants, and asking people I already know and trust for recommendations to people they know and trust. I admire the hustle and I'm appreciative of expressions of interest, but please don't reply or connect with me if you're interested yourself (unless I already know you). I'm not the hiring manager for this job, so sadly such seeds of interest shall fall on a rocky place where they will find no purchase. Thank you! When the job description is live, I'll definitely post a link to it here.

It makes me sad to see so many designers out there struggling with visual design. 🥲 Yes, the form shouldn't go above function, but how the product looks significantly influences how we perceive the product itself. That's why design-led companies are winning. Just getting the basics right can improve the visuals significantly. Learning the principles of visual hierarchy, typography, and layout will take you a long way. As a hiring manager, even when hiring a UX designer role, a nice-looking portfolio will give you an advantage over the others. Act accordingly.

Can we talk about requirements for hiring designers? Not all designers are the same. Not everything is UX. Before writing a post on here about how you need “designers,” maybe list what you are talking about: - What is the need? - How often? - What would they be working on? - What hours are preferred? - Who would they be working with? - Whose computer and programs are required? - How would you prefer they submit? Answering these questions in your posts will get you the right talent without wasting a bunch of people’s time including your own.

I honestly cannot recommend Jeremy enough. We worked together on a new website and here are some of the things that I appreciated: - He can explain complex things in simple terms. Never any waffle, always straight forward, clear and kind. You never feel shy or embarrassed if you need more help. - He will listen to any issues you have, then go and solve the problems. Text not sitting right? Section feels repetitive? Sorted. “Could we try?…” it’s already done. - He sees fixes that other people cannot see. His ideas are usually better than yours (it’s true) and he is passionate about actually making things easy to navigate and properly accessible. Not just box ticking. - Smart, funny and kind. Sometimes a project can be dull to work on or you can’t see the forest for the trees. I was always happy to be working with Jeremy on the project. Even when it got frustrating, hugely time-consuming or repetitive, he was nice to be around and you still wanted to make something better. He is a serious asset that someone should snap up.
📣 Open to work 📣 I’m moving down south (my partner has got an exciting new role in London), and unfortunately I can’t stay with my current company remotely, which means I’m in the market for a UX / UI / Product Design job! Hopefully those I’ve worked with over the years would vouch for my hard work, organisation skills and growth mindset, alongside my love of Figma and my passion for user-centred design. So if you’re able to refer me to anyone who’s hiring, that would be hugely appreciated right now. Equally, a LinkedIn recommendation would go a long way. My proudest work at Baillie Gifford was autonomously creating the Design System, which has empowered all designers to rapidly create mockups that are consistent, accessible and on-brand. But I’ll also take fond memories from the fast-paced website redesign project, working collaboratively with researchers, developers and stakeholders to make sure usability and accessibility were brought to the forefront. I like to think the finished product looks pretty nice too 👌🏻

Today, I'd like to share some things you may not know about me. My name is Ayodeji Sanni, and I'm a dedicated Product Designer who brings a user-centered approach to creating digital experiences that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. I collaborate closely with brands and cross-functional teams to develop digital solutions that align with business goals and exceed user expectations. My objectives for clients and businesses is to craft intuitive interfaces that attract prospects, boost conversions, increase profitability, and enhance customer retention. I aim not only to retain clients for subsequent projects but also to be someone they see as worthy of returning to. This is why I value fidelity, honesty, sincerity, and transparency. My YES is YES, and my NO is NO. A client once told me he knows I don't lie, and I was glad for the recognition of my sincerity. I believe business is a two-way street. While I strive to be faithful and honest from my end, I also expect a similar commitment from clients. Business should be symbiotic, not parasitic. I'm open to roles, whether full-time, contract, or part-time. Feel free to introduce yourself and let's connect! #14dayscontentcreationbootcampwithtab #uxdesign #uiux #productdesigner

Being an independent product designer, I mostly work with small companies and often directly with the founders. Moreso, usually I am the only designer on the team. It gives me a pretty good overview of the challenges associated with product and web design in this context. Designers make these top three mistakes: — Lose sight of technical and business requirements — Propose functionality that does not correspond to the code base — Pay excessive attention to UI and visual trends (aka over-decoration) at the expense of product design. In the context of sole designing, I see the following strengths as the key to success: (01) understanding overall business context, (02) knowing how to communicate with developers, and (03) managing the product development process from A to Z. Moreover, those are the green flags when hiring for such a role: ✅ Designer dives deep into understanding users and business problems ✅ Designer is focused on creating a user-friendly product, not just a visually appealing one ✅ Designer keeps you informed of what is happening and proactively gets in touch. ------- OMG, that is my first LinkedIn summer'24 marathon post and it's scary to press the Post button 😬 But the hypothesis won't test itself out!

NOW HIRING: Principal Product Designer. These are extremely high level IC roles reserved for the absolute best of the best top % of Designers. True Principal Designers are extremely rare, but finding a home as one is also pretty rare - not all companies fully understand how to utilise you. Not the case for this team! You'll be surrounded but exceptional talent where your already high bar for design will be well and truly maintained and beyond. This particular tool their building has some unique features; - Highly intuitive Tool that is both powerful and very easy to use. - Think No Code, Web Editors, Creator Tools, Canvas/Composer style tools I'm looking for that rare designer out there that still believes whole heartedly in the beauty of UI/Visual design and want to work in a team where no UI is compromised. You're the kind of Designer that's probably gotten frustrated with the lack of next level craft out there and finding a team that gets that is hard...until now. #designjobsusa #designjobs #productdesignhiring #productdesignjobs #jaredtredly #principaldesigner

Tech firms don't need UX designers anymore. Here's the reason why: UX Designers help grow a business by optimising a software, app or service. During a recession, business switch from growing to maintaining, which makes a lot of UX and design roles obsolete, hence the design layoffs and in general a different job market for designers. You can read the whole article on Medium in the link below 🔗 What do you think about this? This is an idea, which definitely needs sharpening, so help me challenge my thoughts in the comments below or on Medium :)

I'm a UX Designer looking for work, which means I've been filling out a lot of online job applications. (Yes, I know that's a bad way to look for work - but even with personal connections, sometimes you have to fill out the job application). Oh boy, are these apps bad! So far there has only been one that I couldn't complete. But there have been several that require me to fill in irrelevant or wrong information because they were poorly implemented. Key example: I'm asked a yes/no question such as "Were you referred by an employee?" After I click "no," the form REQUIRES me to describe my relationship to the employee. Um, just friends I guess. I'm a UX Designer looking for work, and this stuff makes my head explode.
