Inclusive youth sports organizations not only provide a sense of belonging for young people, but also serve as valuable platforms for community integration and development. Giving youth an opportunity to participate in sport helps prevent them from engaging in other risky behaviours, including gang involvement and substance abuse. As the founder of Motion Ball Sports, Chris Campbell shares his personal journey and the vital role of diverse volunteers in engaging racialized and immigrant communities. Through mentorship and sports programs, MBS empowers youth to excel both on and off the court, fostering academic development and personal growth. Similarly, Hockey 4 Youth Foundation/Fondation hockey pour les jeunes (H4Y) is breaking barriers and promoting inclusivity by providing newcomers with the chance to play hockey. 95% of local authorities have slashed their spending on youth services by at least a quarter between 2011 and 2021, with a shocking 51% drop in funding for universal (open access) provision. The average number of youth clubs supported by local authorities in England has plummeted from 14 in 2011/12 to just eight in 2018/19.In places like Cornwall and Shropshire, budgets for youth provision are now roughly half of what they were back in 2010. These figures aren't just numbers; they represent a significant step back in our commitment to fostering supportive, enriching environments for our young people. As we witness a drastic decline in youth clubs and funding, the message is clear: we must prioritise and invest in youth infrastructure now more than ever. Why does this matter? Youth clubs and services play a crucial role in the social, emotional, and educational development of young individuals. They offer a safe space for growth, learning, and community engagement, which are foundational to building a resilient, empowered future generation. International Youth Day on August 12th focuses on the difficulties that some young people are experiencing throughout the world. Half the children between the age of six and 13 lack basic reading and math skills and #ChildhoodPoverty is still a prevalent problem globally. #InternationalYouthDay was created by the UN to help draw awareness to these issues as we strive to find solutions. It’s a day for reflection but also a day for taking action so get involved. There’ll be many concerts, workshops and cultural events taking place so have a look at what is happening in your local area. It’s an initiative that honours the traits of young people and that acknowledges the challenges that today’s fledging youth face. To support the elimination of these issues it is important that the youth is able to reach the right resources for education, wellbeing, medicine and more.  International Youth Day began in 2000 and was organised by the UN to recognise the input that young people make in education, community development, environmental groups, #Volunteering for different social projects. Understanding the community before we help is super important for making a real difference. We need to know about their history, culture, and problems they face. This helps us to plan our help in a way that really works for them. We should look for what's already good in the community, like their strengths, weakness, threats, available resources and talents. By using these, we can make things even better. It's also important to be respectful of their traditions and customs. This builds trust and makes our help more effective. Once we understand their challenges, we can come up with ways to help that really fit their needs.
