At Playitas Resort, our sports sponsorships go beyond big-ticket events. We believe in the power of local clubs to create unforgettable moments. Case in point: the Willemsen Open 2024 at TC Kaarster See in Germany. This intimate tournament was graced by tennis pro Mischa Zverev, who shared his expertise and even took to the court with attendees. It's these personal, grassroots experiences that truly embody our passion for sports. 🎾

It's been great to see our community of teams continuing to grow over the past year, with more teams in the US, UK and Europe partnering with Icarus because they (rightly) think their team deserves the fully custom kit treatment. As our list of partners grows, it's more important than ever that we get some of them together in person to play some soccer, get to know each other, and maybe most importantly - rock some sick jerseys. So, with that in mind, we're bringing the Icarus Cup back for its 4th edition this summer! Though this is technically an announcement, you know it was never in doubt. From July 12-14, we'll be welcoming 80 teams to Philadelphia for Icarus' festival of soccer, with all of the usual ingredients: a 7-a-side tournament, live music, a beer garden, and most importantly, 80 more totally unique kit designs. Since the Icarus Cup brings teams from all over to Philadelphia, we're basing all the designs on places around the world. It'll all be like a very niche World's Fair. The Icarus Cup is first-and-foremost a community event, so the most important aspect is the people who come and get involved. So, if you have a team and you'd like to sign up, head here to register: https://lnkd.in/eAkPzNt7 Similarly, a key part of the event is bringing aboard partners, whether they be local businesses or brands we love, to sponsor the teams competing (and to add that key finishing touch to the kits). We like to keep it affordable so everyone has a chance to be involved, and with more than 1000 people coming to the event, we're confident it's a worthwhile experience. Please get in touch if your business is interested in playing a part in making the Cup happen (and would like the 10 complimentary shirts that come with sponsorship)! Also playing an essential role in making the Cup happen are our partners Casa Soccer League - don't know what we'd do without Nolan Bair, Charlie Shea and the team! As ever, it should be an amazing time and we can't wait to have everyone in Philly yet again. For those who couldn't make it last time around, here’s a video that was made about us and last year’s event! https://lnkd.in/exD-sFjd.

It's probably just money: Why hosts do well at the Olympics Hosts don’t always do better: They often do! But not always. Qualitatively, I see little to no bump for: Brazil, Canada, Finland, the United States (1996), and West Germany. But that means that there are bumps for the other 14/19 games. Hosting countries often start getting more medals before they host. Extra athletes probably don’t win many medals: Host nations really do have many more athletes competing. This happens because athletes from the host nation can often “auto-qualify” without needing to beat other athletes in qualifying rounds. I don’t think this is very complicated! Medal counts are not a measure of a country’s worth. Mostly, they measure (a) population, (b) economic development, and (c) how much money you’re willing to set on fire to make numbers go up on a magic billboard. https://lnkd.in/ezSwtUik

What Euro 2024 campaign has caught your eye so far? Have you seen Irn Bru's 'We Can' campaign? For me, it's not any of the official sponsors but instead, unaffiliated brands like these tapping into football fever. 👇 🧡 Irn Bru - just typing it raises a smile. As does their Euros 2024 campaign that brilliantly taps into the football fan's pschye with their 'We Can' campaign. 📺 Check out their great 'Doctors' https://lnkd.in/ejCZWb_P and 'Mannschaft' videos: https://lnkd.in/edHTGNGw released last week ahead of the competition's opening game of Germany v Scotland. ⚽ I just love the Scottishness of this, the humour, and the sense of irrational hope and optimism football fans get ahead of every big tournament. That, and the fact you can buy the pants. 🙏 They'll need all the positivity, hope, and belief they can muster to get a result tonight against Switzerland and keep their tournament hopes alive. 🤔 What do you think of it? If you have time before 4 PM US Central Time today, consider going to the free Midwest Ability Summit at the Overland Park Convention Center (not affiliated, just suggesting). There's a few things such as sports leagues and volunteer opportunities, as well as some technology available and information about accessible activities and contests you might not believe are available. Audio issues to expect: expo levels of talking, some noise from wheelchair-bound soccer.

The UEFA EURO 2024 is heating up with some scintillating goals and a fervent atmosphere! While the FIFA Football World Cup remains the most watched sports event by far, the Euros also generate quite some excitement among football fans. Here are some interesting snippets (courtesy Business of Sport podcast) from the tournament that's taking place in Germany this time: -The 2024 edition is the 17th edition of the tournament, with matches being held in 10 stadiums across the country -The total prize money up for grabs is €331 million with the winners of the tournament receiving a total of €28.5m across all their games. Here's how it's broken up- Qualifying for the tournament gives a team €9.25m, winning each group game €1m, while reaching the knockout stages has a prize money of €1.5m. The prize money goes up significantly as the tournament progresses with the quarter-finalists receiving €2.5m & semis-finalists €4m with the runners-up and winners of the tournament receiving €5m and €8m respectively. -England have the most expensive squad valued at €1.52 billion, followed by France at €1.23b and Portugal at €1.05b. Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe lead the player valuations, with an estimated €180m each. -The tournament is expected to generate €2.4b in revenue for UEFA across media rights, commercial sponsorship, ticketing, hospitality with media rights contributing to almost half the total! -Interestingly, the tournament should have a positive impact on Germany's economy which shrank 0.3% in 2023. Beer sales that are on a downward trend are expected to rebound, along with an increase in hospitality revenues and overall infrastructure upgrades that have been happening in preparation for the tournament. -However, despite not hosting the tournament, the true economical benefactors might just be England! It's expected that a successful campaign (reaching the semis or the finals) could lead to spends of close to €2.75b in the country, with 80 million pints or €400m worth of beer being sold and 12 million people buying the most popular sports food- pizza! Ask any football fan and they'll tell you that football is an emotion. It's also quite a business! Sharing a small clip of the Dutch football fans lining up the streets of Hamburg waiting for their team's first game! https://lnkd.in/gyqhgKXA

💡 When it’s more than a Sponsorship - Competitive sport would not be possible without financial support. Sponsors enable athletes to perform on an international level, especially in non-mainstream sports disciplines that often receive less media attention. 💭 Athletes in niche sports often face the difficult decision of whether to focus on their sport or professional careers, often with sport taking a backseat. 🤝 Join us as Pascal Roller OLY (PwC Deutschland Corporate Communications and part of the German National Basketball team at the Beijing 2008 Olympics), Kira Horn OLY (Part of the National Hockey team for Paris 2024), Christopher Rühr (Hockey Silver Medalist at Paris 2024), and Valentin Baus (Paralympic Table Tennis Silver Medalist at Paris 2024) discuss challenges in competing at the highest levels and how they’ve been supported by partners like Sporthilfe and PwC Deutschland, whose criteria for sponsorship go beyond visibility. 🎤 Moderated by Simon Horn, Communication Manager at Sporthilfe, this talk will dive deep into how sponsorships can truly make a difference beyond just financial support. #PwC #Sponsorship #Athletes #Sporthilfe
