A little bit of a rant here.. bear with me. If you are capturing facial data with an iphone (or any other camera for that matter) for MHA or any other face solving solution.. (either for yourself/company or as a service provider) please take into consideration the people on the other end that will be processing this data... be nice. MHA is pretty robust, but this will help reduce the amount of cursing on the cleanup end. 1.- Clean your lens camera, smudges cause light streaks that cause noise in MHA and are a nightmare in other tracking apps (light streaks act just about the same as sticking your fingers into the view of the camera.. ) 2.- Put some sort of lighting solution on the HMC, this will reduce the effect and glare from lights in the studio and reduce noise from shadows when moving around. (and will reduce somewhat #1 too) Does not need to be a sophisticated solution, buy a relatively inexpensive flexible LED light strip, which runs on a small lightweight USB battery and velcro or tape the heck out of it somewhere. You will get better results. Something like this works wonders (they can be cut small to fit around an iphone mount) 3,- Monitor your face capture.. With the iphone, get up every other shot or so and quickly take a look to see if it shifted, or tell the actors using it to tell you if they notice it change position. I know a mocap shoot is busy and a lot of things are going on at once, and if you are flying solo or with just one or two assistants, it can be challenging, but this will help you in the long run.
