Delighted to publish our real-world data about semaglutide use in clinical practice. Bearing in mind the paucity of real-world evidence, we do hope that this paper, the first of its kind in Southern Europe, will be a valuable addition to the existing literature. These data suggest that there is no ‘’efficacy-effectiveness gap’’, since our outcomes were similar with those reported in the randomized controlled trials. A reminder of the value real-world data have in healthcare research, especially with respect to widespread use of new medications in clinical practice. #semaglutide #antiobesity medications #obesity #weight loss #real-world data

【Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter-2 Inhibitors: Who, When & How? Guidance for Use from a Multidisciplinary Practical Approach】 Full article: https://lnkd.in/gYBnaEV5 (Authored by Khalifa Abdullah, et al., from Alexandria University (Egypt), etc.) Recent research has shown that sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (#SGLT2_inhibitors) offer more than just glycemic control—they also exhibit protective effects on the heart and kidneys across the cardiorenal metabolic continuum. This consensus-based review paper offers practical guidance in an algorithmic approach to primary care healthcare professionals to optimize SGLT-2 inhibitors utilization and maximize their benefits and overcome clinical inertia in their adoption into routine clinical practice. #Cardiorenal_Benefits #Therapeutic_Potential #Cardiovascular_Protection

Understanding your unique genetic profile through PGx testing can bring you one step closer to making health decisions that align with your body's natural needs. PGx testing is highly accurate in determining how your genetic variations might affect drug metabolism. However, it's one piece of the puzzle; doctors also consider other factors like your age, lifestyle, and overall health when making treatment decisions. If you’re a healthcare professional wanting more information on how you can introduce PGx Testing, please get in touch. Disclaimer: our PGx DNA test kit provides insights for 77 specific medications only. The benefits of PGx testing can vary depending on individual patient factors. This test is not a substitute for professional medical advice, and healthcare decisions should always be made in consultation with your healthcare provider. #PersonalisedMedicine #GeneticTesting #Pharmacogenomics #MantaraPGx #HealthcareInnovation

With published evidence compelling, wrt the advantages of PGx panel testing, every prescriber should now be making sure they understand what the implications are if such testing is not recommended or carried out! Just because it is not yet widely available on the NHS, is no excuse for not considering and recommending to patients to consider, as it is available privately in the UK (see mantara.co and others)! If patients chose not to do such testing, for whatever reason, and then experience a significant adverse reaction that could have been predicted by carrying out a PGx panel test, you cannot be held to account. If a patient has a severe reaction that a PGx test might have prevented and they have not been made aware of PGx testing (written in the medical records), beware, as lawyers are going to have a field day! Be aware that, for some medications, the BNF recommends PGx testing before prescribing! Ignorance is no longer an excuse! #PatientSafety #Pharmacogenomics #PGx #PersonalisedMedicine #NHS #MantaraHealth

Salbutamol : Balancing Potassium Dynamics for Optimal Care 🌿 ⭐Info pill series -2 ⭐ Let's dive into the fascinating dual role of salbutamol—a hero in respiratory health and a silent ally in potassium management. The Hypokalemia Puzzle: 📉 Salbutamol, known for its bronchodilating magic, can lead to hypokalemia which is a serious side effect — it lowers potassium levels due to cellular shifts. This underscores the importance of monitoring and balancing electrolytes for patient safety. Surprising Hyperkalemia Support- Drug Repurposing : 🔄 Yet, in patients with kidney challenges, salbutamol flips the script! By nudging potassium back into cells, it helps stabilize high levels (hyperkalemia), offering a strategic tool in critical care scenarios. Embrace the Science: 🔬 Lets dive more into pharmacology—where each findings drives better outcomes and empowers healthcare excellence.
