With published evidence compelling, wrt the advantages of PGx panel testing, every prescriber should now be making sure they understand what the implications are if such testing is not recommended or carried out! Just because it is not yet widely available on the NHS, is no excuse for not considering and recommending to patients to consider, as it is available privately in the UK (see mantara.co and others)! If patients chose not to do such testing, for whatever reason, and then experience a significant adverse reaction that could have been predicted by carrying out a PGx panel test, you cannot be held to account. If a patient has a severe reaction that a PGx test might have prevented and they have not been made aware of PGx testing (written in the medical records), beware, as lawyers are going to have a field day! Be aware that, for some medications, the BNF recommends PGx testing before prescribing! Ignorance is no longer an excuse!
