We need a consistent and appropriate care navigation into “NHS”. What looks good for hospitals- i.e. “see your GP for expedite appt, blood test etc” is bad for GP’s and “sorry no appointments- go to A&E” is bad for hospitals. We need a smooth care navigation for NHS including direction to appropriate services via appropriate method- online consultation /app/ interactive voice response or a friendly voice on phone. Avoiding friction at the entry point ( including ability to politely redirect inappropriate requests) could improve throughput of the system and reduce patient frustration and clinician burnout. Digital transformation of healthcare and careful use of AI can help in this direction.
