Why is building with concrete so important? It is not simply because concrete is more robust, durable, and longer-lasting. It is more profound than that. Oh what utter tosh! It is not more robust. It is not more durable. It is not longer-lasting. What it is, and you fail to mention this, it is responsible for 8% of global carbon emissions. That’s more than every single country in the world with the exception of China & the USA. Timber is just as robust, just as durable, just as long-lasting AND it has a much smaller carbon footprint AND it stores large amounts of carbon. Concrete is part of the climate problem, timber is part of the solution. You are in denial - the tobacco industry went through the same process. It didn’t end well for them and it won’t for you if you continue with this drivel. Yes, there is a role for concrete (our mass timber buildings need timber foundations for instance) but we have to use less of it. Please acknowledge this.

The concrete industry are straying perilously close to telling blatant lies in this post. Other materials, including timber and steel, are just as ‘robust, durable and long-lasting’. What they don’t mention, which is true, is that they - the concrete industry - are responsible for some 8 per cent of global carbon emissions annually - greater than the whole of the EU.
