An admirable aim undermined by a design-by-committee solution. The declared intention to roll out T1 rugby as the non-contact version of rugby in schools is as parochial as it gets. There is already a fast-paced, well-regulated, recognised non-contact version of rugby with national teams, World Cups and its own star players- it is called touch and is managed by the Federation of International Touch - you could even point to Try Tag Rugby as a more union-adjacent version. Instead World Rugby and the RFU with T1 rugby and previously Touch Union are trying to own the non-contact game and claim its players for their own- hence the dissolution of the O2 touch initiative after lockdown that had successfully seen many people take up touch rugby. As a player of both contact rugby union and touch rugby- I think T1 looks a hateful sport and a miserable experience as a competitive game. I'm surprised, and yet not surprised, that the overriding aim of 'get people running around with an oval ball and scoring tries' is being ignored here in the name of ownership and politics. What does BD in the Cayman Islands look like? A question I get asked by many lawyers who are considering a move to the Cayman Islands. Lawyers want to know how they are expected to engage with clients and ultimately build a book and advance toward the ultimate goal of partnership. One crucial thing to consider, especially in the core offshore practice areas like litigation, corporate, funds, private client, banking and finance, is that onshore law firms are major generators of work streams. As an offshore lawyer, your ability to build relationships with onshore lawyers can be just as valuable as your offshore legal knowledge. When it comes to BD, the US and South American markets are the most accessible and time-efficient to target for Cayman lawyers. Given the close proximity and similar time zones, US Firms frequently turn to offshore firms for assistance on complex Cayman specific issues often involving Cayman-registered entities. This is particularly common in high-demand practice areas like M&A, capital markets, funds, crypto and litigation. Cayman lawyers are typically engaged on matters that require advice on regulations, tax structures and cross-border issues. For Cayman lawyers, establishing relationships with US law firms is an efficient way to create opportunities for consistent work-flow and also makes for a great opportunity to get off island and see different parts of the world alongside your Cayman colleagues. Many leading offshore firms have offices across many of the key jurisdictions, typically across Europe, Asia and more recently, the Middle East. These global offices play a significant role in jurisdictional focused BD by generating regional relationships with clients and supporting them on a time-sensitive basis. Lawyers in the Cayman Islands build relationships with colleagues in other offices allowing them to understand global market trends which can often lead to international secondments or in many circumstance, permanent overseas opportunities. While much of the BD efforts in Cayman revolve around international markets, local BD still plays a critical role also. The Cayman Islands is home to a vibrant financial services sector, with a high concentration of finance, funds, wealth management, and restructuring and insolvency-related businesses. These sectors generate significant local work for offshore law firms. Local networking events, such as the one hosted by Maples in the video below can be an important part of BD strategy, offering informal opportunities for professionals to network, compete and refer work in a more relaxed, social setting. Cayman also hosts a range of high-profile conferences throughout the year. We are currently hosting the annual Captives Forum. In 2025, we will see Re-Connect, STEP, GAIM Ops Cayman and the Offshore Legal Week conferences all taking place. These events are vital for raising visibility, meeting prospective clients, and boosting the financial services sector in Cayman.
Our "Take It To Court" Beach Volleyball tournament was back in action in the Cayman Islands heating up the Kimpton Beach Deck! Nearly 200 enthusiasts gathered to compete for this year's trophy. Congratulations to Teneo who aced the competition and won! Thanks to everyone who joined us for a fun day out on the courts.

Why the Rugby Championship faces an uncertain future New Zealand Rugby and South African Rugby Union (SA Rugby)had reached agreement for quadrennial bilateral tours beginning in 2026. And the impact on The Rugby Championship will be significant. There is no word yet, though, on how the Rugby Australia and Unión Argentina de Rugby will fill their August-September Test windows in those years (in 2026, 2028 and 2030). Should Fiji Rugby Union and Japan Rugby Football Union be included in the rejigged Rugby Championship? It might be more benefit to RA and the UAR on their own arrangements. The Japanese fans are going to turn up, they’re going to fill whatever stadium they get a chance to get to, and the same with Fiji. On the side, Fiji and Japan can become conditioned to tough tests, grow in stature and ultimately become genuine top-tier rugby nations. #sports #business #coaching #world #futuro

The Championship Clubs Committee met today to hear an update from their Executive on progress made in discussions about the future of Tier 2 of English rugby. While there was at one point in the recent history of this crucial process a deadline of March 31st for the selection of clubs for a second tier, that deadline was scrapped some time ago and there are currently a series of important and intensive discussions going on around the league, which will be launched for the 2025/26 season. Those discussions between the CCC, the RFU and, where relevant, Premiership Rugby Ltd, cover all the basic points needed to establish a new Tier 2 for the good of the English game and for the security and planning necessary to the current Championship clubs. There is no deadline for these discussions, although clearly it is important that agreement is reached as quickly as possible so that planning for both the new Tier 2 league and for the 2024/25 season can begin. Solid progress has been made on the various issues being discussed. The parties involved believe that an agreement is within reach, although some very important topics still need to be brought to a satisfactory conclusion for all the parties. These are vital discussions and are taking place in an intensive, progressive and co-operative atmosphere. No doubt, when outstanding issues are resolved, a public statement will be made, but in the meantime, please be assured that the future of Championship clubs and the interests of those who aspire to join the second tier of our game are being given the priority they deserve by all of us involved.

More on Thirty30 Tennis and Padel... "The fun of sport is actually playing the game and competing and not just attending endless coaching sessions. When playing Thirty30+ using the 'Golden Deuce sudden-death point', matches can be very, very short. This is great because the whole thing of learning how to win or lose, or playing different opposition, is incredibly important. The shorter faster-paced Thirty30 scoring format, with its modern outlook, can play a crucial role in revitalising the traditional scoring format that has been in limbo for a long time." Mark J Milne, Creator of Thirty30 Tennis and Padel Co-Founder of Thirty30 International Sports Group mark@thirty30isg.com Thirty30 is the innovative shorter and faster-paced scoring format for Tennis and Padel that still maintains the essence of traditional scoring. #tennis #padel For further information see: https://lnkd.in/eEVZKWqr
