#FanLIS2024, the online symposium which bridges information science and fan studies, is coming around again - on 23rd May, 1300-1815 BST. https://lnkd.in/eHwGXgGY In an age when communities form online as much as in-person, and identities may be informed by passions, pursuits, and pop-culture, fandom is a critical space to explore and understand. This symposium contributes to interdisciplinary dialogue around fan uses of inforrmation, including: the ways in which fans create, organise, disseminate, classify and preserve fanworks; the publishing of fanfiction as mainstream literature; fans as citizen journalists; or the beta-reader as editor. Join Ludi Price and colleagues to find commonalities, inspire new conversations, reveal hidden and unexpected intersections, and suggest new methodological approaches that will enrich current understandings of fandom and fan practice. #fanLIS #popculture #information #informationstudies #media #fandom

Oh yes! "The general public needs to experience your enthusiasm, understand the complexity in your work. So… let us science journalists help to open that door to the wonderland that is #science." Clinical speaking, the aim of a science journalist is to render very detailed, specific, and often jargon-laden information provided by scientists into a form that non-scientists can understand and appreciate while still communicating the information accurately. We want to be your communication channel… your bridge between complex scientific data and the theories of the general public. #scicomm #womeninscience https://lnkd.in/ec6Xe3zz

I've always recognized the need to understand audiences when communicating science, though I didn't always know the value of creating well-developed personas (I do now, especially in my current role). This study looking at personas of scientists who engage with journalists is especially interesting, not just b/c of the science, but the engaging #SciArt write up! https://lnkd.in/evR657-8 #SciComm

How to Create Media Buzz? 💥 At our first Alumni get-together, we had the pleasure of hosting Madita Lege, a #journalist from Gründerszene, one of Germany's most important business magazines. Securing media features is crucial for building brand awareness, attracting #investors, and gaining credibility. However, getting the attention of journalists is not so easy. Because: Not every news is a story. Times have changed and press releases are outdated. ❌ Madita gave us an look into the editorial process at Gründerszene and advised, "Put yourself in the journalist's position. Consider what their job involves." The story should provide value to the journalist and their audience. "Think about why the story matters and how it can benefit the readers." It was an incredibly informative session filled with a lot of practical, hands-on tips. Thank you Madita Lege for coming to #Leipzig. #SmartInfrastructureHub #EDIHSaxony #PR

🌟 Reflecting on an incredible reunion with the Pulitzer Center Fellows! 🌐✨ Thrilled to have been a part of the recent Pulitzer Center Reunion, where journalists and storytellers came together to celebrate the power of impactful storytelling. It was amazing to be with people who not only care about the stories they tell but also each other and the communities they cover. I also want to thank Kem Sawyer and Ann Peters for creating a wonderful Fellows' community and continuing to support us even after the completion of our fellowship. The Pulitzer Center's commitment to supporting journalism that matters is truly inspiring. Their mission, to promote in-depth, high-quality reporting on critical global issues, not only educates but also has the power to change lives. It was awe-inspiring to witness how these journalists are not just reporting the news, but telling stories that resonate on a profound level. 📚 The mission of the Pulitzer Center goes beyond headlines, delving into the heart of global challenges to bring forth nuanced narratives that spark conversations and drive change. From environmental issues to social justice, the stories shared are a testament to the journalists' dedication to shedding light on crucial issues that shape our world. 💡 What stood out the most was the realization that these journalists are not merely observers but catalysts for change. Their work has a tangible impact, creating awareness, fostering empathy, and inspiring action. It's a reminder that storytelling is a powerful force that can bridge gaps, build understanding, and drive positive transformation. 🙏 Kudos to the Pulitzer Center for providing a platform for such impactful journalism, and to the journalists who dedicate their skills and passion to making a difference. Let's continue to support and amplify these voices that are shaping the narrative and influencing change. #PulitzerCenter #JournalismMatters #Storytelling #GlobalImpact #ChangeMakers 🌍✍️
