Morning all. Dried out yet?! Cracking editorial in Citywire Investment Trust Insider this morning from AVI's Tom Treanor. Link below. We agree with every word of it. Indeed it echoes many of the points we made in our own "We Need to Talk About Investment Trusts" series from last summer (link in comments). Tom focuses on Boards and communication with shareholders, but makes a related point that NEDs should be paid more. We agree. We need an influx of talent into the NED community. Tom also makes the point that this will temporarily lead to some current bad directors being overpaid. But we would also add that it would also retain and motivate some excellent directors who are arguably underpaid for the hours and work they put in (and probably thinking about exiting). Tom also rightly says that ALL stakeholders have a part to play. We'd encourage all shareholders to pro-actively engage with Boards and brokers (especially if you are not being engaged with by them). We feel especially strongly about fees being calculated as a %age of market cap not NAV and have been making that point vociferously both publicly and in private to Boards we speak to. The current opportunity set is outstanding. But value will remain trapped unless engagement increases from all parties. https://lnkd.in/eWkZfabW
