What If We Did Work For Fun? Many of us found ourselves in the creative industry because we were idealists. We wanted a career that rewarded us for doing what we loved. However, amidst the bustle between briefs, the problem-solver in us can sometimes take over... to the point where we forget we were once idealists. At the start of this year, we made a decision to stay in touch with the idealist in all of us. We kickstarted something we call Merry Go Round – a series of self-initiated projects where we give ourselves the creative freedom to make someone's day. It seemed almost frivolous at first to do work for 'fun'. But in the spirit of the real merry-go round, we reasoned that it would be worth our efforts if it could bring someone joy while allowing us to push ourselves creatively. In the first two months of Merry Go Round, we've gone from creating confession booths in Peace Centre in its last days to kickstarting a shop to sell a calendar made just for leap-year babies. Initiating these projects fired up the idealists in us. But perhaps more importantly, it forced us down paths we never would have otherwise explored, crossing paths with people and partners we never might have met and made us find comfort beyond our comfort zone. We've challenged ourselves to launch a Merry Go Round each month (fingers crossed). And we still have gaps to fill in our calendar. If you enjoy the idea of working for 'fun' too, then let's talk.
