#FridayFact Did you know? Corrosion can occur in the absence of oxygen! ⚠️ In some environments, like waterlogged or buried areas, certain bacteria thrive without oxygen. These bacteria produce chemicals that react with metals, causing them to corrode. This process is known as microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). 🧫 Additionally, when different metals are in contact, they can corrode through a process called galvanic corrosion. This happens due to their interaction, even if there's no oxygen present. Understanding these processes helps us protect metal structures in challenging environments! 💡 #AMPP #Facts #FYI #Oxygen #Environmental #Corrosion #MIC #GalvanicCorrosion #CorrosionPrevention #RustNeverSleeps

Yes , MIC happen unfortunatly, but with a good preventive maintenance , in certain cases, can be control it. Thank you for share! very useful and mportant information.

Great information. Rust never sleeps and never stops but hopefully we can slow down its harmful effects.

As an (anaerobic) microbiologist, I have to say: YES, this is unfortunately so true. But there are many microbiologists and materials scientists working on these issues. 💪

Good information. Rust never sleeps, “It is important to continue monitoring and applying preventive maintenance to many of these materials.”

Corrosion needs an oxidizer, not necessarily oxygen.

Ran into Mic on gathering pipelines in West Texas. Theory was the MIC was introduced by fracking water.
