Not all rubber is the same... In the world of screening, the choice of rubber material is far from trivial—it’s a critical decision that impacts everything from wear life to screening efficiency. The demands of different applications—whether it's scalping, sizing, or dewatering—require materials that can meet specific challenges head-on. For example, in general screening operations, a balanced rubber formulation (like our XR rubber compound) provides just the right mix of flexibility and durability to handle varying material sizes and conditions. But in high-abrasion environments, the same formulation may not hold up, leading to premature wear, reduced efficiency, and more frequent changeouts. In these cases, an extreme durability formulation like our XR100 or XR200 is necessary—engineered to withstand sharp, abrasive materials and heavy impact over extended periods. There’s also the challenge of blinding and material buildup, which can drastically reduce throughput and increase maintenance costs. Elastic rubber formulations like our FXR or FXR100 are specifically designed to flex under impact, dislodging materials before they have a chance to block apertures. These kinds of material-specific solutions allow for consistent screening performance, even in applications that are prone to clogging. Selecting the wrong rubber material for the job can result in costly inefficiencies, shorter wear life, and unnecessary downtime. PEEK coatings offer many superior characteristics compared to other coatings. ✨ PEEK AP105 is known for its excellent wear resistance, chemical resistance, high adhesion to stainless steel, and pin-hole free surface. It can withstand continuous use temperatures up to 260°C and has a pencil hardness of 9H, making it extremely durable. 💪 In contrast, PFA (fluoropolymer) excels in non-stick properties but falls short in wear resistance and adhesion. Ceramic coatings can withstand high temperatures but face adhesion challenges. Silicone offers non-stick and anti-static properties suitable for low-temperature use, but its wear resistance is not as high. Overall, PEEK coating performance is exceptionally high. 🔥 In this short video I answer an often ask community question: PTFE filler alternatives for plastic friction and wear applications: 📌 Alternative Nr. 1: Ultra High Molecular Weight- PE (UHMWPE) is a linear very high molecular wheight PE (3,000-6,000 kg/mol; HDPE: 200-500 Kg/mol) with lowest amount of short chains. This leads to superior strength and stiffness. Also, UHMWPE is known for its high abrasion resistance. By using UHMW-PE dispersed in a base polymer, coefficient of friction values in range of 0.25 can be achieved which is close to PTFE modified compounds. 📌Alternative Nr. 2: PolyEtherEtherKetone (PEEK) Downside is that UHMWPE cannot be used for high temperature applications as it is the case with PTFE. For high temperatures, PEEK micro powders can be a good alternative bringing high temperature, excellent abrasive behavior and chemical resistance together. 📌PTFE Alternative Nr. 3: Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) Another PTFE filler alternative is Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) which can offer a fluorine- and micro plastic-free replacement. The very good lubricating properties of hBN come from its crystal structure.
