Aaahhh, this episode of #AskMoreofAI made me miss The Farm! And it was a refreshing set of voices in a field where there is not enough diversity of leadership. When I was at Stanford University we did have the terms "techie" and "fuzzy" but I think it was a lot more integrated then, as I knew techies who could discuss their deep feelings about Milton's Paradise Lost, and I knew fuzzies who were programming computers to make art. Even in the '80s we were talking about #ai from an anthropological point of view, just as our ethnology was informed by neuroscience and linguistics. It was great to hear Clara Shih and Dr. Fei Fei Li ranging far and wide in a discussion of technology, humanity, and being female leaders with a non euro-centric perspective. The future of AI depends on this kind of leadership.

Imagine a world where diseases are cured faster, poverty is significantly reduced, and we have more time to focus on what truly matters. That’s the potential of AI, and it’s not just science fiction. I’ve been thinking a lot about Dario Amodei’s 'Machines of Loving Grace' essay. As a software engineer passionate about AI, I’m excited about its potential to revolutionise how we live our world. But it’s not just about big, world-changing breakthroughs. AI could also make our daily lives more accessible and fulfilling, from personalised education to smarter city planning that reduces traffic and pollution. Of course, we must be thoughtful about developing and using AI. It’s a powerful tool, and like any tool, its impact depends on how we wield it. We must ensure AI benefits everyone, not just a privileged few. What excites me most is the possibility of AI amplifying our innate abilities. Imagine being more creative, solving complex problems efficiently, and thinking more critically than ever. AI could unlock deeper learning, boost productivity, and help us achieve a more balanced life. It can give us the space to do what we genuinely love, allowing us to focus on the aspects of life and work that bring us the most fulfilment and joy. All without groundbreaking disruptions. As we move forward, let’s think critically about how AI can be a force for good in our world. What problems do you think AI could help solve? How can we ensure it benefits all of society?
