There is a lack of guidance on how to aptly and judiciously utilize GenAI for research purposes. Yet, there is a pressing demand for instructing graduate students in their scholarly journey such as preparing literature reviews for their theses/dissertations/creative components and/or publications. This framework was designed to guide considerations and discussions about GenAI involvement in academic scholarship, e.g. with principal investigators, major professors, or committee members. It may also be useful for developing a rationale for GenAI use disclosure that may or may not be required by publishers. Download from https://lnkd.in/gbe3NZEg

Excited to share that my work has now reached over 1,000 citations! Hitting this milestone got me thinking about how citation rates differ between fields. In the humanities, it’s common for citations to grow slowly since fewer publications are released each year compared to fast-moving fields like tech and social sciences. Since shifting my focus to areas like AI and interdisciplinary studies, I’ve seen my own citation rate pick up as these fields publish and share work more rapidly. For early-career researchers, it’s a good reminder not to compare your citation count directly to others without considering the norms of your discipline. The real impact is in the contributions you make to your field! #ResearchJourney #InterdisciplinaryStudies #AcademicGrowth #AIResearch #Citations

Well, as I said, and as is the subject of my foundation, I believe academic research is stagnating. The culture of academia is anti-science and anti-discovery, and for sure against solving problems, conceptual or practical. You cannot see that if you're an undergraduate, and if you continue doing what you're told to do, you will probably not see it as an postgraduate either, but the value of academia has decreased dramatically and the expectations are so low, they're not even measurable. I don't believe any reasonable progress can be made in science in academia, and that's why we need foundations of various types to do the job, each acting in the direction of replacing academia one way or another or making it move at least a bit... I am not sure that is possible, and I am not sure academia will continue to exist as such in 20 years from now, and play any relevant role in scientific discovery. Now, that being said, I do research myself, and I am not bound, fortunately, by granting institutions telling me what I should do or what is "interesting" right now. I can figure that all by myself quite well. Most people in academia cannot, they really have to wait for someone or something to tell them what to do, which is the benchmark of an authoritarian system, and a system can be authoritarian in academia or in a country. The world academic institutions are to a large extent authoritarian and therefore are not able to harness any of the interesting new ideas that could be out there. People are not permitted to have new ideas and if they try they are usually met with so called "skepticism" as being part of "science"... This is of course nonsense, skepticism, as much as credulity, have nothing to do with science... If you want to do science, you investigate and explore, and have an open mind. A skeptical mind that is skeptical without proof for that and without any theory or understanding that could back up such skepticism is a stupid and closed mind, but that's where you find everybody in academia nowadays. Also, academia has a ridiculously small time-frame of exploration and a ridiculously low level of expected novelty. All the experiments done up to now were made having a theory in mind, and having Nature confirm or infirm it. None of the experiments were asking exploratory questions like in "let's see how it is". In all cases they postulated "something" and did the experiments to find them and when they didn't find it, they didn't bother to explore what was wrong, just changed a bit the parameter space of the theory and tried again. This is a way of imposing one's limited imagination on the Universe, with the universe answering "no" every single time. This is a "skeptical" approach which is as good as a credulous approach... it amounts to nothing if no investigation is done later on as of "why things went wrong" or "what are the clues we can get from this"... which is what academic scientists almost never do...

The initial feeling of "stupidity" when encountering new scientific problems is actually a sign of progress. It highlights the importance of embracing the unknown and being comfortable with not having all the answers in order to drive scientific discovery. #Science #Learning #GrowthMindset https://lnkd.in/gh9m4pwz
