National Stalking Awareness Week has come and gone, but the fight against stalking must continue. Have you seen the Netflix documentary Baby Reindeer or other documentaries showing the risks and dangers of stalking, the trauma it causes, and the barriers victims face? Let's turn our awareness into action by recognizing, responding to, and risk assessing stalking through expert-led training. Learn how to safely work with stalking victims and what NOT to say, such as "change your phone," "move house," or "close down social media." These actions do not safeguard the victim or survivor, and they are not trauma-informed. Get trained, get informed, and get it right. Safeguarding is all about protecting individuals, especially vulnerable groups, from abuse and harm. As humanitarian workers, it is crucial to understand the various types of misconduct and the importance of taking action when violence or abuse is disclosed. Thanks to The Pandora Project's workshop, we delved into: - The types of abuse and misconduct that can occur. - How to respond and report when someone shares their experience of violence. - Power dynamics and how they impact our work.
