My First Flight to Amsterdam I got reasons to brag just like everyone else. In 2016, I boarded my very first flight—to Amsterdam for week long product design workshop, no less! Truer words have never been spoken. I’ll put our #selftaught teammates toe-to-toe with anyone, any day, under any condition. 💪 There’s no "telephony degree"—you can't go to a four-year school or even a vo-tech program to learn what we do. Sure, you can get certifications and take vendor training, but honestly, even my 10-year-old could ace those certs! 🤷♀️ What really sets someone apart? Diving in, taking the initiative, and having the drive to learn… I mean REALLY learn—whether out of necessity or passion. PHEW, that’s an incredible skill to have. 🔥 And it’s also highly dangerous if you’re going up against someone (or a company) who has that mindset. Why? Because NOTHING is unattainable or outside the scope of work for them. Sadly, this trait is becoming harder and harder to come by. So here’s a shoutout to the self-taught, the driven, and those who learn because they want to know, not because they have to. 🌟 Learning Beyond the Classroom: Experiential Learning in Action! 🌟 I had the pleasure of diving into an immersive lecture on experiential learning that challenged us to bring our creativity and strategic thinking to life. As a group, we weren’t just asked to learn about marketing principles—we were asked to live them. Each team was tasked with creating a unique product, crafting a marketing strategy, and pitching it to the class. The assignment sparked innovation and pushed us to think beyond the theories. From ideation to execution, the process was exhilarating and gave us a real taste of what it’s like to develop and sell an idea. We made a BBQ grill out of a tin can and gave a live demonstration in the class. Here’s what I took away: 1️⃣ Creativity is key: Thinking outside the box is essential when developing products that stand out. 2️⃣ Team dynamics matter: Collaboration brought fresh perspectives and reminded us of the power of diverse ideas. 3️⃣ Learning by doing: The hands-on experience helped solidify concepts and sharpen our practical skills. 🚀 Thrilled to have completed the Global Innovation Immersion (GII) Bootcamp! 🚀 Working alongside my amazing team (Jared Tjo, Alexis Neo ( 梁乐希）, Ng Jiahao, Diya Desai, Karris Ng, Chloe Ong, Lim Cai Qian, Elliot Tan) we tackled a series of startup-simulated challenges under tight time constraints. It was both intense and rewarding! 🔹 Task 1: An individual exercise where each of us crafted an email to our “CEO.” 🔹 Task 2: A group task where we prepared slides to propose an international expansion strategy for the gaming industry. 🔹 Task 3: We put our ideas into action by creating a video presentation for our “CEO.” 🔹 Task 4: Finally, a peer evaluation where we ranked each other, only to be “tricked” into thinking that our lowest-ranked teammate would be removed from the program. This twist taught us a valuable lesson on handling feedback—something crucial in startup culture where feedback can be blunt and direct. This GII bootcamp experience taught me so much about teamwork, collaboration, communication, and resilience in a fast-paced and stressed startup-like environment. I’m excited to take these insights forward in my journey!
