Port Plastics’ Post

FR4, pictured in a milling machine below, is the flame-retardant version of G-10. They are very similar but have significant differences, making them two distinct materials. FR4, as expected, has flame-retardant properties that G-10 does not. FR4 also has a Mil-I-24768/27 designation, while G-10 has a Mil-I-24768/2 designation. They have differing UL ratings: UL 94 VO for FR4 and UL 94 HB for G-10. FR4 can be a suitable substitute for G-10 in many cases; however, if a specific mil-spec is required, it must be followed. They are similar in appearance, so it's crucial to ensure your supplier of FR4 stock shapes can provide the correct material that matches your exact specifications. Port Plastics stocks both FR4 and G-10, along with all other types of thermoset composites. These materials meet and exceed all NEMA and Mil-Spec requirements. We can provide FR4 or G-10 in sheet, rod, tube, cut-to-size, or CNC sanded.
