It is now officially one full week since the culmination of Caribbean Studies Association conference 2024 in St. Lucia. During my arrival welcome video, I had no idea what to expect as a scholar, the publisher of Universal Write Publications, or even on a personal level.
What I found was nothing I could have prepared for and so much more than I could have hoped for. As a scholar, the more I learn, the more I realize there is more to learn. I remember, as a graduate student, writing my dissertation, wanting to make it perfect, digging into every piece of research, finding connections, and wanting to include it all, then realizing that there is no way to do it all, especially not by myself. This is the beauty of #academic#discourse, collaboration and #network.
The phrase, "The best dissertation is a DONE dissertation" is common among emerging scholars. This can also be applied to imperfect books with gaps in research, imperfect videos with gaps in delivery, imperfect #teachers, #scholars, #epistemology, and #frameworks. While the best scholarship needs to end at some point, the beauty is the do-over, the forthcoming research, finding scholars that are doing work in another #discipline, another part of the world, another language, or from another framework, that makes us richer, more informed, more grounded and stronger TOGETHER!
More than anything, this video (vlog) is a celebration of what is possible. I remain a continued learner, willing to stumble, sit at the feet of those who have paved the way, and lift as I climb.
This is the community being created @uwpbooks vetted scholars doing the work of #global#africa unapologetic, rigorous, dynamic scholarship.

Hello Friends,
Here's how I prepare to get the best value from Lagos Studies Association (LSA) Conference 2024.
1. Take a look at the programme before the start date. All panels are valuable but some are more relevant to your field than others. What I do is to Choose the ones that will deliver most value to me and then select the best from the parallel session since I am not omniscient. I will certainly do this before the D-Day to avoid stories that touch....😁
2. I plan to arrive on time so I'd get most value. The rooms are many and searching to find the one I want to attend might be tasking so I brace up to be there on time.⏰
3. Every session of LSA is an opportunity to network. I will be going with my complementary card, an as a #sustainability advocate, I'd be doing that with a bar code and so I use less paper and keep more trees alive.🌴⏰🤝
4. I will ensure I do not miss meal times. 15 meals ...that's massive and a great opportunity to network with people of like minds and of course have fun sharing nuggets with foreigners on the basics of the Nigerian food they will be served.
Of course I will also share how my University, the University of Lagos is the only University in Nigeria accessible by land, water and air again this year. I am hoping the Nigerian/Ghana Jollof rice argument will not come up again this year. I was almost deported by my fellow Nigerians at the last conference because I went for Ghana Jollof rice. 😁😛
5. I will not miss the award night for anything. The last time I attended, I learned simplicity. Imagine, Saheed Aderinto our President and many of our Professors dancing to Fuji Music! Who am I? Asides losing calories, it's a rare way to reduce stress and I will be in again to see the surprises and also have fun
NB: Have you seen the details of my panel? (See image below). Please don't plan to miss it! It promises to deliver value especially if you want to be an impactful academic whose result stems from the classroom into solving real world problems through innovation. Trust me, you'd get value!
Well, if I'm yet to convince you to attend LSA 2024, then.....I don't know what to say again. All I know is that you will miss something big and it will affect your #Steeze..😁😁😛
How to become an expert
The world is becoming more and more complicated. In almost all areas today, you need specialist knowledge to be able to assess and evaluate something: Such experts are not only in demand in business, but also in court.
Although the term "expert" is not protected in Germany, there is a hierarchy of qualifications. The highest level is public appointment and swearing in as an expert. Awarding this seal is one of the tasks of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce. For example, 234 experts from various specialist areas are currently publicly appointed and sworn in at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in the Stuttgart region.
This is what you need to have in order to be publicly appointed and sworn in as an expert
If you have special expertise yourself, our Chamber of Industry and Commerce offers you the opportunity to be sworn in as a publicly appointed expert in more than 250 specialist areas. We will support you from the application to the swearing in. Alternatively, you can use the mentoring program of the Federal Association of Publicly Appointed and Sworn Experts and Qualified Experts to learn from experienced professionals.
The most important requirement is that you have significantly above-average specialist knowledge and experience in your field, even in its peripheral areas. There are also personal requirements, especially impartiality.
Your education, however, is not important. As an autodidact, you can take this path just as easily as an engineer with a doctorate. Age is also not relevant.
