Got an unusual Thanksgiving recipe planned for this year (or one you’ve cooked in the past)? Send it in! This year, Thrive is reprising a tradition that Nora Ephron started at HuffPost in 2014: "Tell Us What You're Cooking This Year For Thanksgiving Dinner That You Didn't Cook Last Year." Of course, part of what makes Thanksgiving so meaningful is the ritual of it, including the traditional menu – and that’s also why targeted departures from that menu can be special. When Nora started this campaign in 2014, she noted that at her house, Thanksgiving dinner was always the same – except for one change each year. So how are you planning to depart from the usual Thanksgiving dinner? What is, as Nora put it, “the thing you've never cooked before on Thanksgiving day, the thing that proves conclusively that you're up for change, that you're not your mother, that you're open to new ideas, that you're flexible and full of surprises and with-it food-wise, even though the truth about Thanksgiving is the exact opposite –– it's about ritual and tradition and the same-old same-old.” Message me your recipe with the subject RECIPE, along with photos if you’ve got them (either your own or from the site you got the recipe from). I’ll feature several in my next newsletter.

🍂 Thanksgiving is just around the corner! 🍂As we get ready for the season of gratitude, it’s the perfect time to start planning a celebration that’s full of warmth, great food, and unforgettable moments. Whether you’re hosting for the first time or a seasoned pro, here are some tips to ensure a smooth and enjoyable Thanksgiving:1. Plan Your Menu Early: Decide on your main dishes and sides now. This gives you time to gather ingredients, test new recipes, or even order from your favorite caterer (hint 😉). 2. Prep in Stages: Take some stress off by preparing certain dishes in advance. Sauces, pies, and casseroles can often be made a day or two ahead and reheated. 3. Delegate: It’s OK to ask for help! Assign sides, drinks, or desserts to guests. Potluck-style dinners make for a fun and collaborative celebration.4. Add a Special Touch: Thanksgiving is about creating memories. Whether it's a new dish, special table décor, or a unique tradition, put your personal touch on the celebration.5. Don’t Forget to Relax: Thanksgiving is about gratitude, so take time to reflect on the year and enjoy time with loved ones.Let’s make this Thanksgiving one to remember! What are your favorite tips for preparing the perfect holiday meal? 🍽️ #Thanksgiving2024 #HolidayPrep #Gratitude #ChefLife-

It's the week of Thanksgiving. Do you have any traditions or have you started new ones with your own family/friends? 🦃 My tradition is to start my holiday baking mid month. I love to gift my neighbors and friends cookie trays. Each year I try to extend my skills with a new recipe. I also have learned to bake and freeze so my husband doesn't eat everything! It's fun finding out everyone's favorite cookie too. What's yours? 🍪 Baking is definitely a science. It takes experience to become good. It takes patience to follow the recipe and not rush through the steps just to get to the end goal. If you set your goal, stay focused and on task the outcome is a delicious cake or perfect cookies. Very Pinterest worthy! If you try to skip steps, take short cuts, and expect to still deliver the same outcome you will fail. Last weekend, when I started my baking it dawned on me that baking truly mirrors a sales role! You need to have discipline and you need to be prepared for things to go south (even if you did everything by the book!). However, you can always start over and try again. Usually, that second chance will land you the outcome you initially were aiming for. #thanksgiving #grateful #traditions #family 👇 Tell me your FAVORITE holiday dessert and/or a tradition that you love and continue to cherish 👇

This Thanksgiving, help your spouse when they’re planning that Thanksgiving dinner. Use this as perfect opportunity to introduce Agile to your significant other. Use Story Points to estimate how much food each person can consume. As everyone knows, Story Points aren't about how long it will take to eat the food, but rather the effort and volume of what will be consumed. With that knowledge we can come up with some sample estimates from previous meals: 1 Story Point: This is like a single serving of mashed potatoes. It's a small portion, easy to handle, and doesn’t require much effort to finish. 2 Story Points: This might be a bit more substantial, like a serving of turkey with some gravy. It’s more filling and involves a bit more effort to eat compared to the mashed potatoes. 3 Story Points: Think of this as a plate with turkey, mashed potatoes, and a side of green beans. This requires a moderate amount of effort and represents a more balanced portion of the meal. 5 Story Points: A hearty plate with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, and cranberry sauce. This is quite filling and requires significantly more effort due to its complexity and volume. 8 Story Points: Imagine a Thanksgiving feast plate that's overflowing with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, and a slice of pie. This is a large and complex meal that requires a lot of effort to consume. When your family assigns Story Points to the different dishes, they aren’t evaluating how long it will take to eat each item, but rather how substantial, complex, and filling each item is. Similarly, in Agile, Story Points are used to estimate the effort and complexity of tasks rather than the exact amount of time needed to complete them. This helps in balancing the meal (or sprint) to make sure it's satisfying but not overwhelming. So do your spouse a favor, properly estimate capacity and then EXECUTE, EXECUTE, EXECUTE. They will surely thank you later. 😬
