Women looking to return to work in the technology sector after a career break will now get help from a new government programme called Relaunch. The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) initiative focuses on four areas: providing structured programmes such as coding and artificial intelligence-related courses, career integration support system such as personalised resumes, guidance from mentors and connecting women with networking and employment opportunities. “We do have people who have had to return to a workforce that is fast moving and really challenges them to perform to the rising expectations,” said Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo on Nov 18.

I asked Chat GPT to give me some catchy data about why DEI matters in the workspace, so I could post it here and have quantitative, science-based proof of why you should come to tomorrow's THRIVE TechForward event 🤓. But no matter how much I try, I am not the best translator of the business language, and I always feel like I have to fake it a bit. 🤖 You can ask Chat GPT yourself (or do the old-school Google research 👵), and I am sure it will shower you with data stats from McKinsey, BCG, Harvard Business Review, etc. And this is relevant data! But my data today is an amazing group of learners from the Thrive program who are more than ready to (re)start their career after mastering things like data science, cybersecurity, German language, and digital design. 💪 So if you are looking to hire, and I know most of you are - come and talk to them or get convinced why hiring diverse talent matters - first-hand, qualitative approach. 😉 #DEI #ThriveWithKiron #InclusiveHiring #WomenInTech #DEIB #inclusiverecruitment
Over the past year, hundreds of women with refugee and migration experience have taken part in Kiron's THRIVE program. I have often been deeply impressed by the courage and drive our learners have demonstrated in choosing to study for careers in data science, digital design or cybersecurity - all this on top of tackling the (fiendish) German language and (similarly fiendish) bureaucracy and labour market regulations here in the DACH region! Next Tuesday, we will look to the future with THRIVE TechForward: a day of expert workshops, panels, and networking between graduates and our brilliant partner network of donors, education providers and employers. If you are an inclusive hiring professional in or around Berlin looking for new talent, or simply wish to gain a fresh perspective on diversity and inclusion in the tech industry, we warmly invite you to join us! 🌟 LinkedIn Best DEIA Practices – September Edition 🌟 The EEOC’s newly released report, “High Tech, Low Inclusion: Diversity in the High Tech Workforce and Sector (2014-2022),” highlights that more innovative approaches are needed to foster true diversity and inclusion in the high tech industry. Here are four new and creative strategies you can implement today to drive lasting change! 💡 1. Anonymous Innovation Challenges 🤖: Create anonymous innovation competitions that focus solely on the ideas—not the person behind them. This ensures diverse talent is recognized for their contributions, removing bias and opening doors for underrepresented groups in tech. 2. AI Bias Audits for Job Descriptions 📝: Use AI tools to scan job descriptions for biased language or patterns that unintentionally exclude diverse candidates. Going further, audit the AI used in hiring processes to ensure it’s helping—not hindering—diverse hiring efforts. 3. Cross-Domain Skill Swap Programs 🔄: Foster collaboration between tech and non-tech professionals in your network by creating skill swap opportunities. This exposes underrepresented workers to tech roles and encourages diverse ways of thinking and problem-solving. 4. Equity-Based Resource Allocation 🎓: Advocate for allocating professional development resources based on historical access. Prioritize opportunities like certifications or specialized training for underrepresented groups to help them grow in tech careers. Let’s continue pushing for a truly inclusive tech future that fosters innovation from all backgrounds. Together, we can ensure that diversity isn’t just a talking point but a driver of progress! 🚀 #DEI #Innovation #InclusiveTech #AIForDiversity #EEOC #TechIndustry #Leadership #DiversityMatters Sources: https://lnkd.in/eBrTs8us https://lnkd.in/eJZFHcZM

𝗛𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗘 Building upon insights from last week's discussion, we're delving deeper into the evolution of South Africa's tech sector and its implications for hiring strategies. According to recent findings by biznews.com, the tech landscape faces challenges like a shortage of IT skills amidst high unemployment rates. This underscores the need for a paradigm shift towards skills-based hiring. Drawing from this, our advice echoes the call to embrace a forward-thinking approach. By prioritising skills over qualifications, investing in assessments, and fostering a culture of continuous learning, companies can tap into a more diverse talent pool and drive innovation in the tech sector. Last night, I attended an incredibly inspiring event in Zürich for International Women's Day called Impact the Future: Shaping the Next Tech Revolution! The event covered a range of important topics including Women in Tech within Switzerland, the bias and lack of representation, personal experiences of the panelists, where the tech revolution is headed, and what we can do to contribute. It was an hour packed full of important conversations and another hour of an apéro that I don't think anyone wanted to end. Some key takeaways: *Women in tech related jobs within Switzerland have only increased 1.9% from 1991 ( 26.8%) to 2023 (28.7%). *The tech revolution is here to stay, and women need to be involved – representation is crucial. *Less women are applying to tech-related jobs – more work needs to go into finding the obstacles in the way. *To not be ignored you have to be heard and to be heard you have to speak. Speak with thoughts backed with facts and data. *Networking, sponsorship, mentorship, and other unwritten rules are important. *Luck can be a big factor, but you can also create your own luck. *Don’t be afraid to ask for help – at the end of the day, we’re all winging it. A huge thank you to the speakers, Diana Affi, Kemeng Zhang, Patricia F., and Gaëlle Andreatta, for sharing their insights and experiences, and the fantastic moderator, Daniella Laureiro Martinez, for leading the conversation. Thank you to the organizers, feMTEC ETH Zurich, Women Techmakers, and Women in Data Science (WiDS) Zurich, for making the magic happen. And also, a big thank you to all the attendees for your openness and new friendship. Again, as a newcomer to Switzerland, I am blown away by the professional and warm reception I’ve received from fellow women in tech. Each event I attend leaves me feeling more and more inspired with what is to come. #InternationalWomensDay #WomenInTech #TechRevolution #Switzerland #Inspiration #RepresentationMatters
