Wind and solar power is raising the cost of electricity, because it is intermittent and needs backup. Not sufficient to power data centers. First Solar is cutting 2100 employees, not a sign of power. Siemens Gamesa cut 4100 jobs. If wind and solar is so good, why are these companies struggling? Cost of wind and solar is distorted by LCOE, not a true cost of energy. https://lnkd.in/gambqKzJ https://lnkd.in/eN6jA2sr
The solar industry is in an unhealthy 'situationship' with electric utilities, and Jessica Fishman, MBA is worried about the growing power imbalance: "Electric utilities aren’t just welcoming solar, they are claiming solar only for themselves. Utilities are trying to declare all the profits and benefits of solar, including tax incentives, while also preventing their customers from gaining access to the same." As Perch Energy CEO Bruce Stewart shared in TIME Magazine last week - the community solar industry is booming. Bruce would know - Perch has doubled its market footprint and customers served in the past few years. Sarah Sax, MESc's article provides a great overview on where the #communitysolar industry is now, and where it will be headed over the next 5 years as the #energytransition continues 🌞 🔌 📈
One of the most common misconceptions about #solarenergy is that the consumer needs panels on their roof to enjoy its benefits. In reality, many US states are rapidly deploying #communitysolar, enabling renters, homeowners and businesses alike to adopt clean, more affordable #energy ☀️ TIME Magazine made its case yesterday, and we are extremely proud that client Perch Energy is the first company quoted in their article about the industry's rapid growth ✍ 🗣️ “We've doubled our footprint of the markets we're serving," said Bruce Stewart, CEO of Perch Energy. "We've doubled the number of customers we're serving in the last couple of years. We're seeing a nice, sharp growth in the number of community solar projects that are getting built." 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ecjixBh9

An exciting solar energy milestone! Solar Energy Industries Association and Wood Mackenzie announced the United States achieved #5MillionSolar installations! Even more exciting is the rate of installation: - It took 40 years to reach 1 million sites by 2016 - 8 years later, in 2020, there were already about 1.5 million more, reaching 2.5 million - Since 2020, 2.5 million more have been added with 25% of the installations have come online in just the past 20 months, since the passage of the #InflationReductionAct and thanks to clean energy policies by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) With all of these new clean energy sites going into the ground, we need to be thinking about the full lifecycle of solar energy systems. Now is the time to be planning a circular economy for our solar energy equipment so we can build a truly sustainable new energy future. Unlike large utility-scale solar installations owned by electric companies or businesses, community-scale ones open the door for everyone to embrace solar. ☀ People and small businesses within the service area can own a piece of the installation or "subscribe" to solar energy, collecting credits they can apply to their utility bills. The accessibility of community-scale installations makes it possible for people who cannot fully invest in solar on their own but still want to participate. Sound interesting?
