After an enriching experience at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, I'm happy to be back in Switzerland. The event was not only perfect organized but also provided a deep dive into global energy sustainability, particularly in the Middle East region - a topic of paramount importance given the extraordinary climate challenges we face. During the first day of the Summit, the gravity of climate change was underscored as we experienced several significant storms in the UAE - a stark reminder of the urgent need for action.   As a member of the Swiss Delegation, I extend my gratitude to Arthur Mattli, Ambassador of Switzerland to the UAE and Bahrain, and Benoît Revaz, Director of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (Bundesamt für Energie BFE), for their invaluable support and active participation in this endeavor.   Reflecting on the Summit, I'm eager to share my key insights:   💡 INNOVATION: Companies in the energy sector are increasingly committed to sustainable and efficient energy production, investing in innovative solutions to drive progress. Let's take an example: A hospital decides to reduce its carbon emissions to become more environmentally friendly. They hire a Decarbonization-as-a-Service (DaaS) energy company to help. Here’s what the DaaS company would do: 1. Analyze: Assess the hospital’s carbon footprint by looking at energy use, medical equipment, heating and cooling systems, and waste management. 2. Plan: Develop a plan to reduce emissions by suggesting energy-efficient lighting, installing solar panels, upgrading heating and cooling systems, and improving waste management. 3. Implement: Help the hospital finance, and install solar panels, replace old light bulbs with LED lights, and upgrade to more efficient HVAC systems. 4. Monitor: Regularly check the hospital’s energy use and waste output, making further recommendations as needed to ensure continued reduction in carbon emissions.
