I love to give children bite-sized concepts to solidify the bigger concepts. In this video, I'm just introducing the treble/G clef with a more comprehensive video following in the next lesson. I use pentatones after children learn do re mi so and la, eventually teaching pentatonic scales after learning high do.

Changing from the open G chord shape to the Bm barre chord is a tricky transition. In this video, I share a couple of tips to focus on so that you can play this chord change in songs like 'Against The Wind' and 'Girl From The North Country'. https://lnkd.in/gB4tpnV4

As I embark upon another year of doing what I do (I think the first time I took the drums out of the basement and went somewhere to play them was 38 years ago…) I am thinking about the practice of playing an instrument, and especially of playing the drums. Anyone can hit a drum. The inclusivity of the drums is something I have only appreciated more recently. Unlike so many other instruments, the drums present almost no barriers. There are no “wrong notes” (arguably there are no wrong notes on any instrument, just note choices), so there’s no trepidation about the consequences of making a sound on a drum. This is not to say drums are a lesser or “easier” instrument, just that it’s easy to get started. Similar to how one begins the path to becoming an athletic runner, it always starts just with a step. Hit it a second time, you’ve made a rhythm. Rhythm is the organization of sound and silence. Hitting the drum once makes a sound, but choosing when to hit it again and you embrace a set of intentions and emotions that transform the first hit into the beginning of a rhythm, of a piece of music. That music may only last for those two hits, or go on for minutes or hours. That second hit is so full of potential, and reveals you to be now making music. For me, that second hit of the drum has gone on a million hits of drums and percussion in a thousand of pieces of music in a thousand different places in a hundred cities (probably more). Every time it has to start with one hit of the drum, and the choice to hit it again. DrumEveryDay: https://lnkd.in/erYmgg7

Ok, teachers. It’s about time I shared this with you. On Saturday, August 10th, I’m sharing the strategies that have made my online teaching programs at Harp Mastery® so successful, both for my coaches and me and, more importantly, for our students. Of course, you know how to play the harp, and you know how to teach the harp. But could you make an even bigger difference for your students? This seminar isn’t about curriculum or pedagogy or how to teach technique or repertoire. This seminar will show you how to become the kind of teacher whose students don’t struggle with frustration or fear, but enjoy musical growth, progress and harp happiness. It’s also about the systems you can use that will enable you to find even more fulfillment and joy in your teaching. It’s simple. Happy students. Happy teacher. But don’t think you can just sit through the workshops. We’re taking action! I know you don’t have time to waste figuring out how to implement the critical concepts we will be discussing. So these calls are truly workshops. Once we’ve covered what you need to know, we will work together on the call to complete the action steps you need to take. When you leave the seminar day, you’ll be ready to roll out your new teaching system!
