The inner side of a boiler is usually lined with refractory materials, which are heat-resistant and insulating materials designed to retain heat within the boiler. The most commonly used refractory materials for boiler linings include: 1. Firebrick: A specialized brick made from refractory clay that can withstand high temperatures without deteriorating. Firebrick helps to keep the heat generated by the fuel source inside the boiler. 2. Castable refractories: These are refractory materials that are poured and cast into the desired shape, allowing them to conform to the interior contours of the boiler. 3. Ceramic fiber blankets or boards: These lightweight, flexible refractory materials are often used as additional insulation layers within the boiler, further enhancing heat retention. The refractory lining helps to maintain the high temperatures necessary for the efficient operation of the boiler. By minimizing heat loss through the boiler walls, the refractory materials ensure that the heat generated by the fuel source (such as coal, natural gas, or oil) is effectively transferred to the water or steam within the boiler, improving the overall efficiency of the system.
