I will no longer be interning at Tesla this summer. After a single phone call of less than two minutes, my entire plan for this summer had vanished as if it had never even existed. Just a couple of days prior I had confirmed my living arrangement roughly nine hours away from home for my dream internship. For the first time in maybe my whole life, my mind was utterly blank. No crazy ideas, no fun colors/designs running through my head, no thoughts. "What do I do now?" The symbol I have been using since I picked up Illustrator for the first time in my high school graphic design class is a sun with an X in it. It represents my desire to count every day as a blessing and to live as if there is no tomorrow. More than ever this symbol continues to define me and my brand. I am not giving up yet. I know that I got this opportunity in the first place because of my love for my craft and unwillingness to give up. As upsetting as this is, I refuse to let myself be defined by my shortcomings, but rather by how I react to them. As Jinbei says to Luffy in one of my favorite shows, One Piece, "It may be hard right now… but you must silence those thoughts! Stop counting only those things that you have lost! What is gone, is gone! You can't get back what you've lost, what's important now is what is it that you still have." I didn't think I would experience a mass layoff this early in my career, but really at this point, all I can do is what I do best: joke about it, laugh, and move on. Although this may not have been ideal, I still want to thank the people currently/previously at Tesla for believing in me and offering me the position, even though it did not work out this time. I am grateful for everyone in my life during this time and for the gift that is being able to wake up every day. A visual designer's job is to make the future look brighter and more vibrant, and that's exactly what I plan to do. I am excited to see what comes next. #opentowork
