Congratulations to our team at LG&E and KU Energy LLC on the official groundbreaking of Mill Creek 5, a 640-megwatt natural gas combined-cycle generating unit expected to begin powering customers’ homes and businesses in 2027. “This is an exciting milestone for our company,” said LG&E and KU President John Crockett. “Executing on our generation investment plan, building Mill Creek 5 and adding more solar and battery storage, ensures we have the right mix of power generation that’s flexible and balanced to support a sustainable energy grid and allow us to transition Kentucky’s energy future safely and reliably.”
Today, we broke ground on our new state-of-the art 640-megawatt natural gas combined-cycle generating unit at our Mill Creek Generating Station. Mill Creek 5 will be our most efficient and advanced generating unit, producing electricity through both a gas turbine and a steam turbine, which utilizes steam generated from the exhaust heat in the gas combustion process. Construction is now underway on Mill Creek 5 and will begin powering customer’s homes and businesses in 2027.
Progress to alternative fuels is always a great decision!!
