Reflecting on BELA's Fireside Chat with Dr. Cruz
This past Tuesday, we, the Black Excellence Leadership Alliance (BELA) employee affinity group, had the honor of facilitating a powerful Fireside Chat with Anthony Cruz, Ed.D., creating a unique space for open dialogue, honesty, and shared vision. Our goal was to provide a platform where every voice could be heard and where participants could gain a deeper understanding of one another.
Attendees valued “the chance to interact directly with Dr. Cruz and hear his thoughtful responses to our comments and questions,” with one participant noting, “It was inspiring to learn more about Dr. Cruz’s vision for our community and his commitment to making a difference.”
While some wished we could have had more time to dive even deeper into crucial topics, the conversation laid a strong foundation for future discussions. The openness and engagement at the event made it clear there’s a shared interest in addressing MATC’s and Milwaukee’s key issues more directly. As one attendee reflected, “I look forward to seeing Dr. Cruz continue to deepen his understanding of systemic issues and to hearing his vision for tackling them at MATC.”
Through this honest dialogue and a shared commitment, BELA and Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) are setting a path forward to support the success of Black and Pan African students and employees, building an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.
