These 10 trailblazers, who include CEOs, entrepreneurs, directors, presidents, and founders, have backgrounds as varied as their career achievements, with alma maters ranging from state schools and Ivy League institutions to historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). One of the missions of the Black Leadership Group is to empower Black talent. During our initial launch of the Black Leadership Job Board, Robin Landman OBE CCMI, discussed that organisations can seem reluctant to seek out Black talent even though there is no shortage of it. Organisations need to remember that Black individuals don’t want to be the only person in a leadership team, they need to remember that Black individuals don’t want to be the sole representation in a leadership team; they need assurance that their selection is based on merit, not just diversity quotas.

A staggering decline in Black leadership in corporate boardrooms: the number of Black Lead Directors and Board Chairs has dropped by 50% from 2023 to 2024, falling from 28 to just 14. This sharp decrease signals a critical moment for diversity at the highest levels of governance. As a Pharmacy Representative for African & Caribbean Medical Society (ACMS) University of Manchester I’m thrilled to introduce a new Mentorship Program designed to empower Black pharmacy students. This program aims to connect students with mentors through a thoughtful pairing process based on the information provided in our mentorship application forms. For mentors, this is an incredible opportunity to refine and showcase mentorship and leadership skills For mentees, the program offers personalised guidance, career insights, and meaningful support to navigate the path toward success in pharmacy. My hope is that this initiative will create a supportive community and drive meaningful impact for Black pharmacy students.

My 1st time attending the UK Black Business Week | UK Black Business Show and what an event it was. Listening to people who have had to navigate some of the same issues you have faced as a black professional, and achieving success no matter the industry breeds hope for those to follow, and inspiring future leaders to be the first in their fields to break that ceiling. A few take aways: Dwain Reid Build processes that are easily repeatable, and do what matters! Taylor Mirkarimi Setbacks build resilience, and “if you don’t have horse, ride cow” Dean Forbes Be sensitive to other cultures when you opporate in a leadership role and What do you excel at outside of work. Afua Hirsch Don’t be afraid to be you, and stand by your principles. Ebun O. Stay ready!! Steven Bartlett If your not willing to pay the price, you won’t win. It will be embarrassing at first. And finally don’t be afraid to promote yourself/achievements, as no one else will..!!
