The Art of Prioritization in Product Management As product managers, we often face multitude of features and tasks clamoring for our attention. How do we cut through the noise and determine what truly deserves our focus? Here's a glimpse into my prioritization playbook: 🌟 Easy: Prioritize According to Your North Star Metric 🌟 By aligning your priorities to the North Star Metric you ensure that every decision you make moves the needle in the right direction. Easy. Eg. a new opportunity pops out asking for your attention, it doesn't align with the NSM, you can easily shift away. Read more about North Star Metric here: https://shorturl.at/dgjk8 🚀 Medium: Prioritize According to Your Quarter/Annual Goal 🚀 Quarterly goals serve as important milestones on your journey towards achieving your long-term vision. By aligning your priorities with these shorter-term objectives, you can maintain momentum and track progress more effectively. Eg. a new opportunity fits the NSM but is out of the agreed/committed quarterly goals? You can shift away. Or talk it through. 💡 Hard: Prioritize According to Effort Impact 💡 Sometimes, the path to prioritization isn't always clear-cut, especially when faced with tasks of varying complexity and impact. By evaluating the effort required to implement a feature or task against its potential impact on the product and its users, you can make more informed decisions about where to allocate resources and attention. Eg. new opportunity fits NSM and quarter goals. You now have to evaluate to pick it up or not. Easy in words, hard in everything else. Share your insights in the comments below. A post on Medium will arrive soon🌟 #ProductManagement #Prioritization #ProductStrategy #NorthStarMetric #Goals #EffortImpact
