We are very excited to launch our primary research report on the #FutureofCare today on #WorldHealthDay We believe that #connectedcare will have a vast impact on the structure of the healthcare sector. While it is encouraging that technology building blocks exist to create a connected care ecosystem, a blueprint to orchestrate them to create new possibilities is still not in place. We all have a role in rebuilding healthcare systems, as every value chain component needs to be completely reimagined. With this as the hypothesis, we conducted a global survey and spoke to 375 senior decision-makers and influencers at organizations in five key healthcare industry sub-sectors on their thoughts on connected care. Wonder why? Regulation vs. Free Market: Unlike technology and other consumer goods, the healthcare sector is heavily regulated. This limits price competition, which in turn prevents the downward pricing trend seen in other sectors. Attempts at healthcare reform have not yet adequately addressed the root causes of high costs, such as administrative inefficiency and inflated pharmaceutical pricing. Cost Transparency: A significant issue in healthcare is the lack of price transparency, which prevents consumers from making informed decisions based on costs. The opaque pricing and billing process make it challenging for consumers to understand what they are paying for and to compare costs between providers. Misalignment of Incentives: Unlike tech products, where competition and consumer choice drive down prices, healthcare incentives are often misaligned. The focus is not necessarily on efficiency but service volume, meaning providers are financially rewarded for the quantity of care rather than the quality of outcomes.
