A noteworthy Low-Pressure System (LPS) is developing over the North Bay of Bengal, fueled by moisture from the northwest Pacific and the Bay of Bengal. It will likely produce significant thunderstorm activity and precipitation over northeast India during 3-4 days

Delhi, with 33.8 million people, faces severe water shortage in 50°C heat; seeks Supreme Court help for more water from neighbouring states like Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. ★ The Delhi Jal Board manages this water, getting 40% from the Yamuna River (through Haryana), 25% from the Ganga, 22% from the Bhakra Nangal Dam, and 13% from underground wells. ★ Despite having nine water treatment plants and a big network of pipelines and reservoirs, Delhi didn't produce enough water from May 21 to May 31. ★ Delhi produced 977.79 to 993.76 Million gallons per day but needed 1,290 MGD, causing a severe water shortage. The government is asking the Supreme Court for more water from Haryana, and citizens and officials are collaborating to solve the crisis. Your comments can make a real difference in securing clean water for everyone in our city. Join the discussion, and let's find ways to ensure a better future for Delhi.

Torrential Rain and Electricity Short Circuit in India Torrential rain in India has led to widespread flooding in several regions, causing significant damage to infrastructure and displacing thousands of people. The heavy downpour has also resulted in electricity short circuits in many areas, leading to power outages and disruptions in daily life. Authorities are working to restore power supply and provide assistance to those affected by the adverse weather conditions. The combination of torrential rain and electricity short circuits has created a challenging situation for residents in affected areas. With communication networks and transportation systems being impacted, emergency response efforts are being hampered. The local government is urging residents to take precautions and stay safe during this period of inclement weather, while repair crews are working tirelessly to fix the electrical issues and restore normalcy as soon as possible. As the rain continues to pour and the risk of further short circuits remains high, residents are advised to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating rescue and relief operations to ensure the well-being of those affected by the torrential rain and electricity short circuits.

Bengal, specially South Bengal experience heavy rains during the monsoon season. As a result the underground water level is fairly high in Bengal. Villages & even suburban townships have a very easy source of water derived from borewells. The major problem of borewell derived water in South Bengal is dissolved impurities like iron & arsenic. Once exposed to the atmosphere, the dissolved iron in the water become oxidised & the water turns murky & smelly. Arsenic is toxic in nature which also makes the water from the borewell unfit for human consumption. One solution to this problem is supplying filtered water by the local bodies, however until the infrastructure is put into place, households can harvest rain water inside covered underground tanks to be used all year round mitigating the ill effects of water pumped out of borewells. #carbonfixx has a solution which can improve the water scarcity with simple Rainwater Harvesting...

Reservoir storage update - India - April 2024 (Source Central Water Commission) While the news of "expected" above normal monsoons in India may bring some cheer - here is a snapshot of our current water storage levels (with over two months of summer yet to go) a) The overall water storage in major reservoirs and river basins in the country has dropped less than the average 10-year storage levels. b) Southern states are the worse off - with a storage level deficit of 30% below the decadal average. b) Designed capacity in the southern states ranks highest but has the lowest efficiency. To overcome the water stress, we require more than a higher-than-average monsoon; it starts with rejuvenation of the surface water and more importantly ground water management. Urban areas have a large part to play in this situation. Hyper localized rainwater harvesting (using underground tanks) is not the solution. Urban policies will need to include "rainwater harvesting AND ground water recharge" as mandatory and not either or. #groundwaterstorage #environmentalriskmanagement #sustainablecorporaterealestate
