Let me tell you 🤗 We all have the power and the responsibility to impact the future of technology and society, with AI as a major part of shaping our world. What will that future look like? And how will we build it? We can use our skills, creativity and passion to create positive change and solve the problems that matter to us and our communities. September Comes Out to Play the Boundary Game Once again, WISE (Women’s Initiative in Siemens Energy) and WIT (Women in Tech) from Siemens Energy collaborated to facilitate an extraordinary workshop, held at the Competence Hub Europe in Bucharest on September 10 and 11, 2024. The hosts, Mona Johansson, a Leadership Coach and Performance Mentor, and Sara Shadabi, a Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience working with women, immigrants, and gender studies, guided us through this enlightening session. We delved deeply into understanding ourselves, uncovering how our brains can deceive us, and learning about the ease of manipulation. It is crucial to be vigilant and proactive in safeguarding ourselves. I extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and shared their stories. Our WISE journey so far has been incredible, and our initiative have many exciting plans for the future. Is The Cultural Wiring Holding Women (in #Tech) Back? Cultural wiring– the deep-rooted social norms and expectations we grow up with – has a profound effect on how women approach their careers, leadership, and decision-making in tech and every industry is probably a common understanding. From subtle biases to ingrained beliefs about risk-taking, these cultural norms shape not only how women assumed see themselves but how they are perceived by others. However, this is not solely a #women’s issue. Patriarchal norms and structures continue to define what #leadership, #success, and #innovation look like in many #industries including tech. While women in my opinion must take bold steps and embrace uncertainty, #men also have a #responsibility to #challenge their own #biases and #assumptions about what “belonging” looks like in these spaces. It’s a #joint #effort to create a more inclusive and equitable environment. In many societies including #Finland, women are taught to seek security and certainty, to avoid risks, and to follow more conservative approaches in their professional lives. This cultural narrative can stop innovation, limit career choices, and discourage women from pursuing leadership or entrepreneurial roles in male-dominated fields like tech due to their unsecurity. Whether we’re talking about advancing in a tech career or starting a new venture, the search for guaranteed outcomes is an illusion. The world moves too quickly, and change is inevitable, a point Riikka Uimonen made at the #WiTforum2024 panel today and she challenged all of us by saying ”Let’s drop the expectation of certainty, certainty does not exist!”. Women in tech—and in every field—can step into their power by embracing the unknown, taking risks, and disrupting the status quo starting now. What Men can do to contribute is to question and dismantle norms that limit others and make simple changes. One place to start is understanding the numbers of women currently in #CEO & #CTO roles in tech is not just low but super low = CEO=17% and CTO=8%(techopedia). What I have always thought and keep on thinking is that we don’t need to nor should we play it safe. What we need to do as women is to rewire the narrative and that’s what we are doing at the Women in Tech Finland forum today with Fusion Ecosystem’s Riikka & Tuike J. as well as Ecosystem Founder colleague of mine Marjut Sadeharju, CEO of Splended . 💜🙌 Take a stance and join us in the effort 👊💜, you have only one life and what is certain is that if you do not try it you will for sure not experience it. #WomenInTech #Leadership #Innovation #EmbraceUncertainty #TechDiversity #CultureShift #MenAsAllies
