NATO Allies have demonstrated the importance of collaboration when it comes to the complex art of submarine rescue during Exercise Dynamic Monarch 24. Across the ten day exercise, experts with decades of experience came together to share the latest techniques, as well as test and refine their submarine rescue capabilities. Ten nations took part in the exercise – Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Hosted by Norway, the exercise took place in Norwegian territorial waters between 9–19 September. The stages of submarine search and rescue were tested and evaluated throughout the exercise, to ensure the best outcome for what would essentially be a race against time. In any distressed submarine (DISSUB) situation, the first stage of response will be the search for the submarine in trouble. Submarines are stealthy by design, so in a real situation finding one is challenging. A US P-8 Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft, sonar systems and underwater drones were all deployed in Dynamic Monarch during this phase. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gYgRP8Mc

Can this innovation bridge the gap... or fill a gap and have a long-term place within our RAN capability... https://lnkd.in/gGswtXMv Ocean Submarine’s NEYK N3 ocean-going diesel-electric attack submarine can be used worldwide within 24 hours thanks to air transport. The ability to carry out a mission with a combat submarine on the other side of the world within 24 hours has now become a reality with the NEYK N3 built by Ocean Submarine. The world’s most manoeuvrable submarine features state-of-the-art technology that allows it to complete missions even when faced with cyber-attacks. “Modern weapons have entirely changed warfare,” says Ocean Submarine CEO Martin van Eijk. “Superiority is no longer assured for the party with the largest army; small manoeuvrable teams with tactical weapons are far more effective. This fact has been underlined by the recent destruction of the Russian flagship Moskva by two Neptune anti-ship missiles in the conflict with Ukraine.” It is exactly these kinds of scenarios that lay behind Ocean Submarine’s decision to develop a compact submarine that has significant benefits over conventional vessels. “The NEYK is smaller but carries full equipment and weapon systems,” adds Van Eijk. “It can do anything that current submarines can and yet its crew only consists of 12 members. This means you need five times fewer people to operate one full submarine.” #ran #adf #maritime #navy #defence #wormald #asc #baes #defencesa #sovereigncapability #defenceaustralia #navalnews #defenceindustry #navalshipbuilding #MaritimeIndustry #Shipping #MarineTechnology #MaritimeInnovation #OceanTransportation #PortsAndTerminals #MarineEngineering #MaritimeLogistics #MaritimeTrade #NavalArchitecture #Seafarers #MaritimeSafety #Oceanography #MaritimeLaw #MarineEnvironment #MaritimeEducation #MaritimeHistory #Shipbuilding #PassionForTheSea

#NDS | "The framing of the inaugural 2024 National Defence Strategy is notable for its emphasis on ensuring that Australia is well-positioned to contribute to a favourable strategic balance in an increasingly multipolar Indo-Pacific where no one power is, or should be, dominant. This is not simply a clear-eyed recognition that US military power in Asia is in relative decline: it's an assessment that a favourable balance of power and a regional order beneficial to Australian interests ultimately depends on building out a strategy of collective deterrence with the United States, Japan, India and others – a strategy to which Australia has indispensable contributions to make now and in future years. Importantly, that strategy will depend on a military capable of undertaking operations and activities out in the wider region, not simply in Australia's immediate waters and airspace. In that sense, the emphasis on reorienting the Australian Defence Force from a highly flexible to a more focussed force capable of delivering deterrence effects far from Australian shores is appropriate. Focussing on the development of power projection capabilities with "operationally and strategically relevant ranges", including platforms like submarines and a range of specific long-range precision missiles and unmanned systems, will be critical to meeting threats to Australian interests out in the region where they are most acutely manifest."
