Let us introduce you to Audrey Manuputty (Audrey), a Public Relations undergrad from Universitas Padjajaran’s Faculty of Communication Science. Audrey has just finished her internship period at Praxis and we got the chance to talk to her about the whole experience! Over the past three months, she has had the privilege of applying her academic knowledge in a real-world setting, surrounded by PR professionals at Praxis. She said that this experience has been incredibly enriching, "I've learned to think strategically. Being exposed to many clients across various industries and with different needs has opened my eyes to the breadth of strategic communication. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, and I have learned to be adaptable and broaden my perspective accordingly." Audrey also generously shared a couple of tips for those looking to join this exciting realm: 1. Connect with your passion and purpose before applying. During the application process, she believed that emphasizing this was crucial. Have the mindset that you are here to learn and will be proactive about it! 2. Also, make sure you are proficient in English, as Praxis has several international clients. "I hope that during my short stay, I am able to help and contribute to Praxis in some way. After this experience, I hope to utilize both my soft and hard skills gained through hands-on experience here," concluded Audrey. We're happy to have been a part of Audrey's journey! From fetching coffee to doing the work of a full-time employee, the reality of internships often swings between menial tasks and/or exploitation. While #internships offer invaluable opportunities for soon-to-graduate students to apply their knowledge in the real world, gaining experience often clashes with the harsh realities of exploitation and cutthroat competition. The pressure of "hustle culture," the relentless pursuit of self-improvement, and the idolization of success have created a fierce battleground where securing an internship feels like winning the lottery, making it easier than ever for companies to exploit this desperation. I want to empower all interns here, just as Turas Group empowered me during my internship with them three years ago by assigning me meaningful projects and showing their appreciation through fair compensation and benefits. Here's several thing that interns should know: 1. Written Internship Agreement (Perjanjian Magang) A formal agreement is mandatory. It should clearly outline the terms of the internship, including duration, working hours, responsibilities, learning objectives, and any compensation or benefits. 2. Fair Compensation (Uang Saku) While unpaid internships are legal under specific conditions (e.g., purely observational internships), if the intern's work primarily benefits the company, they are entitled to a reasonable stipend. This is mandated by the Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 6/2020. 3. Learning Objectives and Mentorship: Remember, your primary objective as an intern is to learn and grow. Access to programs and infrastructure that support your learning curve is your right, not a privilege. Stop #exploiting. Start #empowering.
