Hurricanes are an increasingly significant threat to Florida. An essential step in preparing for potential hurricanes is to plan and take the correct protocols to ensure that biological materials and ICH stability products remain safe and secure. Storing at a secondary location, such as an offsite biorepository, helps protect against damage or loss of irreplaceable biospecimens that may arise from storm surges and other hurricane-related dangers. Hurricane Helene, despite making landfall in Florida, is a clear example of how hurricanes can have remote impacts on Louisiana. The heavy rainfall brought by Helene will likely trigger flooding in the Mississippi River, which will, in turn, affect salinity, carbon, oxygen, and sediment dynamics in the Louisiana Shelf. This underscores the importance of a coupled river-ocean model to forecast both the direct and remote effects of hurricanes on coastal ecosystems. With the destructive force of #HurricaneHelene being unleashed over such a broad area in such a short period of time, it was hard to fully grasp the scope and extent of the damage. This WAPO interactive map with video from FL, GA, SC, and NC provides a clear idea of how widespread and total the losses are. Free share link below. https://wapo.st/47KlJ6q

This is a perfect example of why spending a little more on hurricane screens that offer UV and insect protection is crucial. These screens could have kept the patio secure, avoiding damage to impact sliders and windows. DM to discuss any South Florida projects before investing in insect or solar screens.

Twelve Capital Event Update - 28 June 2024 Over the previous two weeks, the first Named Storm of the season was registered; Alberto which made landfall as a Tropical Storm in Mexico, with heavy rain and flooding across Mexico and south parts of Texas. No impact is expected to any Twelve Capital positions. In the Atlantic, there are currently two potential areas of development over the next seven days, one in the Caribbean Sea with a 20% chance, and an area out in the Main Development Region (middle of the Atlantic Ocean), with a 70% chance of development into a storm system. Should either of these areas develop into a Named Storm, the potential strength and direction of these areas will become clearer over the coming days. Twelve Capital continues to closely monitor relevant potential and actual catastrophe events and will issue specific updates on new major events that occur. #ILS #CatBonds #HurricaneSeason

🌳💧 Why Trees Fall During Hurricanes: Hidden Dangers You Need to Know! 🌪️ www.arboristondemand.org Hey everyone! 🌟 Looking at a tree we're about to remove from a house 🏡 with a crane. Trees can fall over because their roots break? But often, it's not just about the roots! 🌿 During hurricanes like Hurricane Beryl, excess moisture lubricates the soil, making it easier for the wind to blow trees over. 🌬️💦 This is especially common in poorly drained, compacted soil. 🌀 #TreeCare, #HurricanePrep, #TreeRemoval, #HurricaneBeryl, #TreeSafety, #RootDamage, #SoilHealth, #CompactedSoil, #TreeRisks, #StormDamage, #TreeExpert, #ArboristAdvice, #TreeProtection, #WindDamage, #ExcessMoisture, #TreeHealth, #TreeMaintenance, #StormPrep, #HomeSafety, #CertifiedArborist, #TreeCareTips, #HurricaneSeason, #TreeFall, #TreeDamage, #RootHealth, #DrainageIssues, #StormSafety, #TreeHazards, #TreeRoots, #ProtectYourTrees

#HurricaneMilton is now 12 hours or less away from making landfall on Florida's west coast. The latest consensus among models is for a landfall south of Tampa Bay near Sarasota. However, some members are still slightly further north closer to the mouth of Tampa Bay. It's important to note how sensitive the economic loss scenario is to the exact landfall location in this case. A landfall south of Tampa would spare the region the worst of the storm surge and hence the economic impact. That's not to downplay the catastrophic surge that could occur in Sarasota and points farther south, especially areas impacted by #Ian not too long ago. At this point we simply need to watch and wait for any wobbles in the track. Residents even outside of the cone should be prepared, since the cone represents only 2/3 of the National Hurricane Center's forecast errors over the last 5 years. That means that in 1 out of every 3 cases, the storm tracks outside of the cone. Regardless, #Milton will be a historic storm for this portion of the Florida coastline. Several large and dangerous tornadoes have already been reported today throughout the Florida Peninsula. We hope everybody in the path of Milton stay safe and continue to monitor information and alerts from their local weather and emergency management officials. #hurricane #florida #floridaweather #flwx #tampa #tampabay #sarasota #clearwater #stpetersburg #category4 #stormsurge #flooding #hurricanes #hurricaneseason #tornado #fortmyers #ftmyers #tornadoes #historic
