In both personal and professional life, adaptability is a key driver of success in today’s AI-driven world. It's not just about surviving technological advancements, but learning how to thrive by leveraging those advancements in ways that benefit personal development, career growth, and organizational success. Embracing continuous learning, staying open to new ideas, and integrating human creativity with AI will enable individuals and teams to flourish in an increasingly dynamic landscape.

Adaptability is essential in the age of AI because technology and market dynamics evolve faster than ever. As AI automates processes and changes job roles, individuals and organizations must continuously learn and pivot to stay relevant. Adaptability enables people to integrate new tools, respond to shifting demands, and find creative solutions where AI lacks human intuition. For organizations, an adaptable culture allows them to innovate, embrace AI-driven efficiencies, and respond quickly to emerging opportunities, fostering resilience in a constantly changing landscape.

I agree that companies do need to pivot and may struggle to do so. I have seen first hand how they want to do so much but their organisational structure is not efficient. I agree that having a dedicated lab and team and starting small is key to getting moving. And, alongside this, given the time crunch when implementing new tech, I would say you should also ensure you give your teams ownership, authority and freedom to create. You should have champions around the business and give your employees a sense of value that they are involved in such an epic change. Plus, put a strategy in place for how to handle this change without culling the workforce as a first resort.

Great article ... The point is that MOST AI applications are very often CUSTOM built around a proprietary innovation - which is very often patented. In this way, NOBODY else can replicate the application - which means that company's that don't have access to "THAT" technology application will not be competitive in the marketplace. Take a look at what has been happening with Chinese AI-based applications: " China's leadership in AI patent applications has expanded significantly in recent years. From 2013 through 2023, Chinese organizations filed about six times more patents in generative AI than the U.S., showcasing the country’s focus on innovation in the AI domain. These companies & institutions have consistently outpaced their U.S. counterparts resulting in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) pointing out that from 2013 to 2023 China alone accounted for over 38,000 patents in generative AI, compared to about 6,200 from the U.S. This trend highlights China's competitive edge in the global AI race, especially as AI applications are poised to reshape multiple industries in the coming years." It is NOW or NEVER! If companies wait to see what is happening - it will probably be too late for them!

‘Success-induced complacency’ is a phrase I’ll be adopting. It chimes that so many orgs don’t see the need for change, or blame the wrong things for declining performance. Paradoxically, creating the conditions for innovation and opening up to the possibility of pivoting is exactly the opposite of what most struggling businesses do, which is to control harder.

In today’s rapidly evolving world shaped by AI, the ability to adapt has become essential for achieving both personal and professional goals. Thriving amidst technological progress means more than just keeping up; it’s about leveraging these innovations to fuel personal growth, career advancement, and organizational achievements.

Bernard Marr Love the concept of ‘pivot or die’—it’s a powerful reminder that adaptability is the key to survival in today’s fast-paced tech world. The examples of Netflix and Apple show how successful pivots can lead to incredible growth. How do you think AI will influence future pivots in industries like healthcare or tech?

Bernard Marr, thank you for sharing these valuable insights on adaptability and the importance of embracing change! 📚

Absolutely! Embracing change is crucial for success in the ever-evolving tech world. Pivot or Die mindset is key for survival. Bernard Marr
