🏗 On a ~1 year old Building I happened to be visiting, I noticed this overhead duct installation through a rated egress stair shaft. A few things jumped out at me: - Are tops of the duct straps firestopped at the Firewrap penetrations? - Does the Fan system account for the pressure drop experienced with 4 back-to-back square elbows (one is tucked away behind the fan) - Are we allowed to route this duct through the stairwell if it doesn't expressly serve the stairwell? - Should the F/SD be in the plane of the rated wall, or is there a planned future wall here? - Where are the thrust restraints on the axial Stair Pressurization fan? - Do you have code-required headroom at each of the nosings? Solid walls have a notoriously poor thermal resistance. The solution? Solid wall insulation! 🏠 There are two approaches to address this issue: External and Internal Wall Insulation. External wall insulation involves adding a protective layer to the outside of the building to improve thermal performance, revamp the exterior appearance, and protect the underlying structure from weather-related damage. ⛈️ Internal wall insulation is applied to the inside surfaces of the walls. While this technique is often less disruptive to the building’s external appearance and can be implemented regardless of external space limitations, it does reduce the internal floor area.
