July is disability pride month. I hope organizations use this time to reflect and ponder over their procedures, processes, and policies that perpetuate ableism in their workplaces. I often find that those who work within areas whose mission is to support, foster, and create inclusive environments through their advocacy work are the gatekeepers. Ironically, I've worked in environments designed to help disabled students but lack the same support for their disabled staff. For those who can make impactful changes at their organization, I ask that you not "other" disabled people because disability is a part of the human life cycle. Invite disabled people to the table and ask for their feedback/input. Disabled people must be included in the decision-making process. This is how you form inclusion. Too often, disabled folks are left out of the process until the end. Disabilty should never be an afterthought. #IAmDisabled #DisabledAndLiving #Accompliances #CoConspirators #InclusionIsTheSolution #TogetherWeCan

Did you know that July marks Disability Pride Month? We are proud to stand with the disabled community, advocating for inclusion, accessibility, and equality. Public Health England outline that disabled people make up a significant minority within England: one in five of the population are disabled. They also state that disabled people experience disproportionately higher rates of domestic abuse. Not only do disabled people experience higher rates of #DomesticAbuse, but they also experience more barriers to accessing support, such as health and social care services and domestic abuse services. Disabled people also experience domestic abuse for longer periods of time, and more severe and frequent abuse than non-disabled people. Disability Pride Month is not just about awareness but also about creating a more inclusive world, and more inclusive services, for all. It’s crucial that we carry the energy of Disability Pride Month all year round. How are you marking #DisabilityPrideMonth? Let us know!

#PrideDisabilityMonth is here, and there are many impactful ways to support people living with disabilities in our community. Here are some suggestions to consider: 1. Respect and Empathy: Treat everyone with the same respect and dignity. Avoid making assumptions about their abilities or needs. 2. Offer Assistance (But Always Ask First): If you see someone struggling, offer help, but ask if they need assistance first. Respect their response, as they may prefer to handle things independently. 3. Educate Yourself and Others: Learn about different disabilities and the challenges faced by disabled individuals. 4. Include Them in Activities: Ensure that people with disabilities are included in community events and social gatherings. Make sure these activities are accessible and adaptable to different needs. 5. Advocate for Disability Rights: Support local and national disability advocacy organizations and push for inclusive policies and practices. #PrideDisabilityMonth #Ucaa

Today, in honor of Disability Pride Month, Abled Voices, our employee group supporting those with disabilities, their caretakers, and allies, hosted Taryn (Debold) Lagonigro, co-founder of Extra Lucky Moms. This community provides support, education, and advocacy for parents of children with disabilities, promoting inclusion and empowerment. The session was a chance to come together and learn. One tip I appreciated was: “You can never go wrong by asking someone: ‘What is the right way for me to say this? What would you prefer?’” Asking with genuine curiosity shows care and promotes a judgment-free dialogue. To support coworkers who live with or care for those with disabilities, consider asking how they’re doing or what challenges they face. One of the best way to show support is by asking. #DisabilityPrideMonth #Inclusion #Empowerment #ExtraLuckyMoms #Community #Support #Education #Advocacy

Today, is international day of disability. Sunflowers 🌻 the chosen and adopted way to signal and to symbolise a need in the community of an invisible disability. Not all abilities are visible, and not all differences are obvious. Disability is more than equity and inclusion—it’s about recognising the humanity, strength, and potential of those who may need support, a little extra time, or a different approach. These individuals deserve advocates, advocacy, and the empowerment of self-determination. They need voices that amplify theirs, spaces that welcome their presence, and communities that celebrate their differences. Support. Share. Shine. Be the reason someone feels seen, heard, and valued. Be someone's sunflower—a symbol of warmth, light, and unwavering support. #Inclusion #Advocacy #DisabilityAwareness #SupportAndShine
