It might be an understatement to say that Thanksgiving can be a fraught holiday. For some, it evokes welcome nostalgia, joy, connection, or bounty. For others, it may usher in feelings of disconnection, dread, grief, or systemic invalidation. For still others, it may bring a mix of pleasant and unpleasant associations to the fore, or might hold no meaning, or it is perhaps tinged with a flavor that my limited imagination cannot conjure to mind. Whatever your circumstance today, I hope to remind you of your importance in this world and of the small moments in life that bring you comfort and succor. In that spirit, I’d like to share this poem, "Small Kindnesses" by Danusha Laméris: https://lnkd.in/e24AxphE. My hope is that it offers a gentle reminder of the power of everyday kindness in grounding us and connecting us to one another. If you feel inspired, please feel free to share a small kindness that this reading brings to mind for you. I'll go first: The other day, a fellow curly-haired human complimented my curls, and we immediately launched into a delightful nerdfest about the whims and wonts of curly hair. We laughed as we commiserated over the elusive quest for the perfect alchemy of products and ultimately celebrated how much we’ve come to embrace our free-spirited manes. For me, it was a simple, beautiful moment of connection. #thanksgiving #kindness #smallactsofkindness #youarevalued #mentalhealthmatters #psychology #positivepsychology #selfcare #connection #community #communitybuilding #helpingothers #thoughts #wellness #mindful #mindfulness

Devotion is that exquisite thread of love that tethers our heart to one another. It is a commitment of our soul rooted in the recognition that we belong together. For those navigating the torturous heartache of witnessing a loved one with Alzheimer's, it is the inspiration behind the ongoing care. We forget the importance of this principle in our life. Families can become estranged following a misunderstanding or something said in the heat of a conflict. Kahlil Gibran wisely said, "But if in your fear you would seek only love’s peace and love’s pleasure, then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love’s threshing-floor". While naturally we cannot sustain our devotion through any betrayal or rupture of our fundamental rights, it is very important that we re-visit this source of bonding that can last a lifetime. As we come together with friends and family through the holidays, we might find ourselves challenged by polarizing political beliefs. It is essential to protect our alliances of love by not drifting into toxic and wounding debate. We hold the hands of those that matter when we remind ourselves who they are and why we care. Just as we cannot define each other by a disease, we must not get lost or baited by someone's mind. "Let's not talk politics" can be a crucial boundary. However, we must mean it more than just saying it. There are so many branches on the life affirming tree of devotion. When we alert ourselves about the principles of our heart before entering someone's home, we set the intention to meet in love. Amongst the most concerning places in which we drift away from devotion is our relationship to ourselves. When we entertain thoughts of shame or judgement, we abandon our alliance with self-care. Honoring our devotion to others doesn't mean neglecting what matters to us. While Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate gratitude and family, we can also allow for the grieving that may be surging during the holiday. We need not leave those we have loved outside for fear of "ruining a meal". We can remain devoted to those we miss by naming them in conversation if we wish. Let us put wood on the fire of devotion. #devotion #thanksgiving #grief #boundaries #intentions #selfcare

Happy Monday! 👋 It is a new week and we are halfway through November. While November often marks the month of gratitude and thanksgiving, this particular month has had a big impact on most of us throughout the U.S. in one way or another, positive or negative, or a little of both. Feeling grateful during uncertain times can be difficult. But we can choose an attitude of gratitude to help us cope by reframing our perspective during a disaster or dealing with a challenge when the outcome is unpredictable. Did you know that grateful people are more stress-resistant? There are a number of studies showing that in the face of serious trauma, adversity, and suffering if people have a grateful disposition, they’ll recover more quickly. Read more here https://lnkd.in/gECr6SQ about how gratitude can help you look at stressful events with a fresh perspective to gain insight. ~ Coach Nancy

Never stop being a good person no matter how bad someone else treats you. Their words and their actions reflects of who they are and not who you are. You can live and sleep with peace of mind knowing that you never hurt anyone.... #Motivation is There is some evidence that being aware of our own acts of kindness, as well as the things we are grateful for, can increase feelings of happiness, optimism & satisfaction. Doing good may help you to have a more positive outlook about your own circumstances. It helps to make the world a happier place, one act of kindness can often lead to more! Acts of kindness can make the world a happier place for everyone. They can boost feelings of confidence, being in control, happiness and optimism. They may also encourage others to repeat the good deeds they’ve experienced themselves, contributing to a more positive community. The more you do for others, the more you do for yourself The benefits of helping others can last long after the act itself, for those who offer kindness, and those who benefit. This, in turn, can improve our self-esteem. #StayKindAnyway #LiveLoveLaugh

Slow Down & Be Thankful Life is a delicate balance-what we often take for granted, someone else is praying for. If you're chasing wealth, someone else is chasing health. For every new mansion built, a grave is dug. For every smile, there are tears elsewhere. Gratitude is everything. It's easy to focus on what we don't have, but if we stop and appreciate the blessings in our lives, we realize just how fortunate we truly are. Whether it's clean water, food on our table, or the simple act of breathing-there's always something to be thankful for. Let this be a reminder to cherish each moment and express gratitude for the little things. Your life is someone else's prayer. Let's focus on what we have instead of the vanities we chase. How will you practice gratitude today? Comment below and tag a friend who needs this reminder! #mindwrite #patient

Jesus + Seltzer Vol.1 pg78 Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. MELODY BEATTIE I’ve been reflecting a lot lately on gratitude and how it’s shaped my worldview these past couple of years. I’ve said before that my perspective was usually “my cup is always half empty,” but out of my struggle with addictions came a sense of peace and joy. A renewed spirit which has given me eyes to see and ears to hear in ways that were near impossible while still in bondage to alcohol. What I like about this quote is that there is no judgment about our past; it is what it is, and I can move forward with understanding. It’s also comforting to rest in the moment and to be present in whatever circumstances I find myself in. This “rest” allows my spirit to be open and ready to receive whatever it is that life throws my way. I don’t believe that you have to be a person of faith to experience the benefits of gratitude, but taking a step of faith is required in order to accept the gift of gratitude. Especially when life seems unfair and you’re struggling with doubt, confusion and hopelessness. I’ve found life to be more “doable” when I take the time to start each morning with a spirit of thanksgiving. Today, may you receive the gift of gratitude, and, in doing so, pass it along to someone else. Sharing with others is what builds community, and out of this community comes a collective vision for oneness in the Spirit. #Gratitude #NoJudgment #RestInTheMoment #BuildCommunity www.jasonumidi.com
