There has been growing interest in the intersection of entrepreneurship and mental health and well-being. As Ute Stephan's 2018 paper on Entrepreneurs' Mental Health and Well-Being: A Review and Research Agenda (https://lnkd.in/gSQTzRWN) suggests, supporting entrepreneurs' resilience and well-being can help them achieve better outcomes with ripple effects for our society and the economy. We now know so much more in the field of neuroscience and there is evidence that entrepreneurs are more likely to be neuroatypical and fall on the spectrum. However, there is even more to be learned and translated into practical application for entrepreneurs and others. To further this field of study, STVP - the Stanford Engineering Entrepreneurship Center together with Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign has launched the Stanford Initiative for Entrepreneurs' Resilience and Well Being (SIER). This is work is a critical part in pursuit of our mission to "empower aspiring entrepreneurs to be global citizens who build and scale responsible innovations." Spending my last few hours in DC after what felt like a rich and productive conversation around open science and scholarship. I want to thank the organizers including Amy Brand, PhD David Crotty and Nick Lindsay for inviting me. Also many thanks go to the wonderful panelists of the Future of Peer Review session I was honored to moderate: Lisa Cuevas Shaw, Ashley Moses, Arthur (AJ) Boston, and John Inglis. Each one of these individuals has and continues to inform and inspire my work! So thank you! A lot was said, but if there is one takeaway from this meeting is that the future of scholarly publishing and peer review is now, preprints and adjacent scholarly outputs are the vehicle, and people, all people, are and need to always be at the center. Another takeaway (I’m not good at the One Thing thingy! 😅) for me is that everyone has the power to drive change. Yes, perhaps funders and policy makers have the power to accelerate that change, but I know from experience that everyone who has stakes and cares about how knowledge is produced, shared and evaluated has the power to shape how the processes that support those activities unfold and are managed. We all make choices and those choices matter. To all of you who have the power to move money around, scout for those groups that prioritize people and communities over commercialization, assimilation and profit, fund them and help them how to become sustainable in community. Moving forward we need more opportunities for diverse, value-aligned stakeholders to come together in spaces that facilitate constructive debate, enable brave conversations meant to find common goals that drive coordinated change. The change we need is driven by hope and not fear. The change we need emerges from a deep reflection and understanding of the mistakes and oppressive systems that got us where we are. Find your power and use it for good!

This is so well said! What publication means is changing in the academic world - it NEEDS to change. And community is what we need to drive that change. pyOpenSci 's open peer review of software, is a community-lead effort that seeks to help scientists get credit for the work that they do writing code and software. Efforts like PREreview Are rethinking what it means to publish scientific outputs in a "paper" like format. Efforts like myst and mystmd are working towards making scientific outputs more interactive and iterative. We all need to work together to make this change happen! 🥰 🚀 To make science more open, collaborative and inclusive. To make it more iterative. And to put the outcomes of science in the communities hands, sooner and in more effective formats. #openscience #opensource
