Here’s how it works: gather your friends and neighbors with kids around the same age and everyone brings gently used clothing, books, and school supplies, toys, etc., and receives a ticket for each item they bring. Each ticket entitles you to one item from the swap meet. If you contribute six books, you can leave with up to six new-to-you books. If you contribute seven items of clothing, you can leave with up to seven new-to-you items of clothing. Today is National Sewing Machine Day! As we honour this machine that has kept us in stitches since the first sewing machine patent in 1791, I reflect on how many unused sewing machines are sitting lonely in closets around Edmonton, just taking up space. Today, I encourage you to pull it out of the closet and decide what you are going to do with it! (1) Start using it again (SOON); (2) Sell it; (3) Donate it to a local charity; (4) Gift it to a family member. Broken or incomplete 🧸toys not played with, jumbled up with other toys. 5. Things left in garages, attics which have become dirty/smelly. 6. Out of date tech items 📸📲 So much effort goes into producing each and every item we own - it’s so sad 😞 when they never get used. Trade your “just in case” mindset for a “pay it forward” mindset. Respect your possessions and let them find new life in someone else’s hands. p.s. charity stores are faced with mountains of unsaleable items (like those above) dropped off each day. The rule of thumb is - if you wouldn’t pay for it yourself, it’s not donateable. Dropping off unsalelable items costs charities money. #donate #payitforward #minimalism #declutter

Maybe you inherited a family estate that is full of stuff you don't know what to do with.
